Assassin’s Creed III Walkthrough

The game’s liberation missions will be unlocked and available to undertake once you have completed sequence 6A ‘On Johnson’s Trail’. During this mission you will actually liberate Central Boston, so you do not need to worry about that one anymore!

For each of the remaining five districts of Boston and New York, you will need to look at the map and identify icons that look like a cross with a diamond in the middle of it. These indicate the locations of one of the liberation tasks. Once enough of the tasks have been completed, the rest of the markers will disappear and you’ll be able to pick up a short, simple mission from your contact in the area.

Completing these contact mission, will allow you to recruit said contact as an assassin afterwards (Yes you only get six in the whole game!). Each of these assassin recruits will also introduce an additional assassin ability that can be selected from the assassin wheel, so they are very useful tasks to undertake!

Note: Liberating the whole of either of the main cities will also earn you the achievement/trophy ‘Man of the People’

North Boston

Central Boston will have been liberated as part of the main storyline during sequence 6.

Ambient side-missions:

• Chase and kill three thugs harassing merchants: When you find one of these thugs, they will run away. Run after the fleeing target, avoiding the guards that try to block your way and kill him.
• Free a civilian held captive by guards: Kill the guards guarding the prisoner and then interact with the stockade to free the prisoner.

Recruitment Mission – Gangs of Boston:

After completing enough of the liberation side-missions in North Boston, you will be able to receive a mission from Duncan Little at the contact objective marker.

You will be tasked with killing the templar leader. He is located at the end of the northernmost dock in Boston. fight your way through with the help of your assassin recruits. Once the templar is dead a scene will play to complete the mission.

At this point, Duncan Little will have joined your ranks as an assassin and you will earn the assassin ability – Bodyguard.

South Boston:

Ambient side-missions:

• Chase and kill a military pursuer: When you find these guys, they will be mounted and chasing another person riding away on a horse. Kill the mounted enemy either by chasing and taking him down with your hidden blades or even easier – shoot him.
• Eliminate a conscripted prisoner’s escort: As you wander the area you will find groups of 3-4 guards escorting two friendlies about. Kill the guards to free the conscripts and complete the task.

Recruitment Mission – Martial Law:

After completing enough of the liberation side-missions in South Boston, you will be able to receive a mission from Clipper Wilkinson sitting on a bench outside a house marked with an liberation objective marker.

You will be tasked with killing the templar leader. When you start the mission, you will be facing him. Simply go into your assassin moves wheel, select the marksman ability and target the templar. YOur assassin will snipe him, as he dies a scene will play to signify mission completion.

At this point, Clipper Wilkinson will have joined your ranks as an assassin and you will earn the assassin ability – Marksman.

New York Northern district: 

Ambient side-missions:

• Free three families from eviction: In several places, you’ll see families being forced out of their houses by guards. Kill the enemies in front of each house. To complete the task.
• Defend three farmers whilst they harvest crops: A small blue circle will appear on your mini-map around the farmer. Enemies will rush in to attack. Simply kill them whilst defending the farmer for a minute or so.
• Beat up three merchants to help starving children: In some places, you will see merchants in an agrument with children. Defeat the merchants and their cronies using only unarmed combat to complete this liberation task.

Recruitment Mission – Hoarding Supplies:

After completing enough of the liberation side-missions in North New York, you will be able to receive a mission from Dobby carter at the farm building in the West section of the area to start the mission.

You will be tasked with killing the templar leader. He is located outside a building sitting in the middle of the lake in North New York. Either fight your way in or swim across and stealth assassinate him. Once he is dead a scene will play to complete the mission.

At this point, Dobby Carter will have joined your ranks as an assassin and you will earn the assassin ability – Lure.

New York Western District:

Ambient side-missions:

• Burn three bundles of infected blankets: Approach the blankets in question, klll any enemies guarding them and then when its safe to do so interact with them to set them on fire to complete the task.
• Put down three rabid guard dogs: You will find rabid guard dogs, often near guards. You will need to kill them to complete the task. Note that if you can kill them undetected, things will be much faster as if they get a whiff of you, they’ll bark and alert guards to your presence.
• Carry three sick civilians to the inoculation clinic: In several areas around the district, you will find sick civilians. To complete this task, you will need to pick them up and carry them back to the clinic in the centre of the area.

Recruitment Mission – Protect the Clinic:

After completing enough of the liberation side-missions in West New York, you will be able to receive a mission from James Colley at the inoculation clinic in the West section of the area to start the mission.

You will be tasked with defending the clinic against several waves of enemies. Either fight your way through them all solo, or summon your assassins to give you a hand. After a couple of waves, the templar leader will show up with some re-enforcements. Once he is dead a scene will play to complete the mission.

At this point, James Colley will have joined your ranks as an assassin and you will earn the assassin ability – Ambush.

New York Eastern District:

Ambient side-missions:

• Prevent three Executions: When you happen upon the executions, kill the five enemies comprising the firing squads lining up to shoot the civilians. Once they are all dead you will have completed the task.
• Beat up three leaders to Obtain information: You will find these patrols made up of three regular guards and a captain. Kill or defeat all of the regular soldiers and the captain will surrender. After a short scene, you will recieve some information and complete the task.
• Plant false documents on three snitches: After talking to a friendly civilian indicated with a blue objective, marker you need to Walk up behind the yellow target on your map and pickpocket them in order to plant the false documentation.

Recruitment Mission – In the Wolf’s Lair:

After completing enough of the liberation side-missions in East New York, you will be able to receive a mission from Jacob Zenger from the marked building to start the mission.

You will be tasked with killing the templar leader. He is located on one of the ships docked in the harbour to the East of the area. As with the mission in North New York, you can either fight your way in or swim across and stealth assassinate him. Once he is dead a scene will play to complete the mission.

At this point, Jacob Zenger will have joined your ranks as an assassin and you will earn the assassin ability – Prisoner Escort.
Fort Liberation Missions [FTQSTS]

The fort liberation missions in Assassin’s Creed III are short infiltration missions with the goal of destroying the occupiers’ ammo stores, assassinating the captain of the Fort and then raising a flag in the courtyard. There are seven forts located around the game world. You will find two in Boston, two in New York and three in the frontier.

The trick is to enter the fort without being detected. Once you are inside, feel free to kill everybody and fulfil the mission objectives.

Here are the locations of each of the forts and a route to enter each undetected:

Boston:

1. Fort Hill:
   Location: On the waterfront along the Eastern part of Central Boston.
   Entry: Avoid the main gate and head around to the north-eastern corner of the fort. Here you will find a smaller entrance. Kill the guards here and head inside. Complete the objectives in the fort and raise the flag to complete the liberation.
2. Fort Independence:
   Location: Along the water on the south-Western edge of Boston’s southern district.
   Entry: Sneak up to the fort and use the boxes at the Easternmost corner of the fort to climb up over the wall and onto the battlement. Once inside complete the objectives in the fort and raise the flag to complete the liberation.

New York:

1.  Fort Washington:
   Location: In the centre of the Western waterfront of the West District of New York.
   Entry: Approach the Fort from the water to the North of the fort and kill the patrolling guards here stealthily and sneak in the back gate. If you are detected, continue south down the dock and climb over the wall using the crates and boxes here.Once inside, kill the captain and destroy the stores. Afterwards, raise the flag to complete the liberation mission.
2. Fort Division:
   Location: In the very North Eastern corner of the North District of New York. It is just to the East of The Eastern entrance to the Frontier. Entry: Approach the fort from the water on the South Eastern edge of the fort. You will see a hole in the wall here that you can swim through. Once inside complete the objectives in the fort and raise the flag to complete the liberation.

Frontier:

1. Fort Monmouth:
   Location: You will find Fort Monmouth in the South-West corner of the Monmouth hunting area.
   Entry: To enter undetected, you can approach the Fort from the water to the south, kill the patrolling guards here and then sneak into the fort via the opening at the end of the dock. Once inside, kill the captain and destroy the stores. Afterwards, raise the flag to complete the liberation mission.
2. Fort Duquesne:
   Location: You will find this fort in the centre of the Black Creek Hunting region.
   Entry: To enter undetected, you can use the trees to the north of the fort to enter from above and drop down inside. Once you are in, kill the commander and destroy the ammo store before raising the flag to complete the fort’s liberation.
3. Fort St-Mathieu:
   Location: You will find Fort St-Mathieu in the south-western corner of the Scotch Plains Hunting region, just to the left of the entrance to New York.
   Entry: To enter undetected, work your way to the East of the fort until you reach the cliffs, slide down here and then use the cliff faces at the base of the fort and the tree above to climb over the wall and drop down inside the fort’s walls. Once inside complete the objectives in the fort and raise the flag to complete the liberation.
