Installing the iPhone into this case is rather easy… once you figure out the trick to opening this case. Trying to pry or slide the case apart with your fingers will leave you frustrated. The way to open the case successfully is to perform the following maneuver:
- place case face-down on a hard surface (preferrably something with grip, like a carpet or mousepad)
- Press the latch button down with one finger
- Place the palm of your hand on the other part of the case
- Slide the case away from the latch using your palm
Opening the case with the palm of your hand is much easier, and can be opened every time with little effort. Unfortunately, this movement ends up making horrible vertical scratches on your iPhone. The purpose of a case is to protect it and keep it looking brand new. Because the case is so form-fitting, sliding the back off and on scratches the back. Adding insult to injury, you must clean the iPhone rather frequently with this case because so much dust is let in through the gaping-wide access holes.
In summary, the Case-Mate iPhone 3G Naked case is rather decent. It offers great shock protection, and has a good built-in screen protector that doesn’t reduce sensitivity in the slightest. It won’t pick up pocket lint like other cases, but tends to allow dust into the case, and must be cleaned frequently to maintain its sleek look. Because the screen protector is integrated with the case, you can get some annoying “moisture bubbles”. Overall, a very good case, but not the One Case to Rule Them All.
