The one thing you will notice right away is that this is not a tool-less case. Some people prefer them this way, others may not it’s defiantly a matter of opinion. After removing the case side you can see the amount of room you have. With the side vented and 2 places to mount front fans intake, the 120mm mount in the rear is more than enough airflow so you can crowd this case and still keep your gear sufficiently cooled.
There are 3 separate plugs for the included fan and front lights which can be neatly routed behind the back plate for further cable control.
The one thing this case does quite a bit different then other current cases in the industry is the lack of drive rails. All of your equipment is screwed directly into the mounting hardware in the case rather than external drive rails, this goes right along with the tooled case theme, and once again you may or may not have a preference either way.
The included 480W power supply is adequate for a modern system, but you wouldn’t want to push it very hard. Generally even no-name power supplies are fine if you stay within 70% load, so as long as you stay under 330 watts, then you should have no issues from this generic power supply. You can’t expect to run a high end gaming or Cad solution with this computer, but it definitely has enough juice to power a mid range or beginner gaming rig.
External Features
At first look at this case I was pleasanty suprised as to what it could offer: a pre-modded case complete with a custom window, LED fan and Grill and an impressive array of lights to show off the front details.
I really like the design of this window, I think it shows off some of the interior features of the case while still keeping visibility of the bottom of the case down, this allows for cathode placement, cable management or just some dust collection without drawing attention to it via a full square window. Its also something a little different, which isn’t a bad thing from a pre-modded case.
The X-man Silver also has a lighted Case badge area. This looked like prime time to bust out my Thundercats case badge for some lighting action! Ahh, brings back those eye of Thundera moments.
Conclusions
There are tons of options out there now in “caseland”, you have your choice from the top of the chain back down to the beige boxes we used to kick under our desks to make the fans stop whining. This case has great potential for a wide variety of that market. With its well designed layout and small extra thoughts like dual 80mm front fans, it makes a great entry into any Overclockers arsenal, or with its front modded LEDs, custom window side panel complete with fan grill and an included 480watt powersupply it makes a smart budget sensitive case for the beginning-moderate gamer.
