Vizo UFO 4-port USB Hub Review

The UFO does have some good things going for it, flaw and all, here are some of the highlights:

  • 4 USB 2.0 ports for easy expansion
  • Round shape design prevents interference between each device on the hub and cable trouble
  • Rotary hub prevents dust
  • USB version 1.1/2.0 Specification Compatible
  • Support a data transfer rate of up to 480 Mbps
  • Support Bus-Power, 4 USB ports up to 500mA
  • Support Self-Power (option , 5V/1A Adapter not included)
  • Plug & Play with USB Devices
  • Hot Swappable
  • Over-current detection and protection for individual ports
  • LED status Indicators

You see that third one up there? That only applies when the HUB is not in use and unplugged from the computer, only then can it close completely. Now like I said before, I had several high speed items plugged into this HUB all at the same time, nothing bogged down, or cause any sort of problem, so I will say that the HUB can take a heavy workload. Please remember that to have a high speed hub, you must plug it into a high speed port on your computer. Otherwise it will only act as a USB port, and high speed devices will not work.

Lastly, the Hub features two rounded feet on the bottom that slightly elevate the ports when exposed, this allows for an easier grasp of cables that need to be removed from the hub without picking it up completely.

Quality 4 The hub is light yet sturdy, I wish it had a tad more weight to it so cable weight wouldn’t move it around so much, but it still it is well built. The spinning door needs to spin from the other direction so it can cover unused USB ports.
Innovation 4 It’s a good idea, having a circular shape so cables don’t interfere with one another, the bandwidth has been increased to a studly 480 Mbps so you can take advantage of your multiple external storage devices.
Performance 5 It handled all the beefy external devices I could throw at it, never even blinking.
Installation 5 C’mon, it’s plug and play, it is simply as easy as it gets.
Value 4 You should be able to find this HUB for around $15. For the added bandwidth and heavy power load the UFO is made for, this is a pretty good deal. Unfortunately, Vizo does not appear to have any retail channels in the United States, so good luck finding one, even online…
FINAL VERDICT: 4 out of 5 stars
