Once you get down to street level you get your first experience with killing zombies by playing on their stupidity. There is a downed electrical line on the ground in front of you. You press Y to taunt the undead, and they come hobbling at you. Then they get ravaged by electricity and die. Again. As I went along, I found that much of the game was like this. You get zombies underneath heavy objects and push it off on them, or you release levers and squash them into a pulp with heavy boxes or machinery.
From the rooftops we end up underground, in the tunnels that weave underneath all of Seattle. I took the “Underground Seattle” tour when I first moved here, and I have to say they did a great job of making it look good. As you go along you come to some areas that are flooded with water. Since your character can’t swim, you have to drain the areas before you can proceed. In some places you can see bodies under the water. What sucks is that even after you drain the water down to a level that Randall can safely wade through it, you still don’t know if they are zombies or just dead people until you get in the water. And I’m not going to tell you what they are.
Once you get out of the tunnels you come out next to Interstate 5. While underneath parts of I-5 you can see zombies in the foreground and background roaming the interstate. Wrecked cars litter the street. At one point, in the foreground, a zombie is trying to escape from a car window as you run past him as well as a pile of human remains covered in flies on the ground. You get across I-5 and onto the other side of the embankment and that’s where you see a sign for the “Safe Point” and an arrow pointing in the only direction that you’re allowed to travel that’s not back where you came from.
