It’s great that this card still lets you run the latest video games, but since this is older technology then it’s only fair to compare apples to apples… that is we’re going to see how it performs with games from this card’s hay-day. Our test configuration consists of a Pentium 4 3.5 GHz with 2GB of DDR2-800 RAM. We are using Windows XP SP2 with ATI Catalyst 8.10 drivers.
Let’s get down to the nitty gritty and see how it stacks up with comparable video cards.
Far Cry 1.33 Very High Quality
| Video Card | 1280×1024 | 1600×1200 |
| MSI X2400 | 25.58 | 28.92 |
| GeForce 7600 | 26.27 | 33.85 |
| PowerColor X1600 Pro | 32.57 | 35.71 |
Far Cry is still a beautiful game, and is very popular at LAN parties. Even though this card is a little older, you can still get very playable framerates at full resolution and the highest quality.
3dMark 05
| Video Card | 1024×768 | 1280×1024 |
| MSI X2400 | 5106 | 4859 |
| GeForce 7600 | 6689 | 5967 |
| PowerColor X1600 Pro | 4993 | 4091 |
3dMark05 is a good comparison of how cards compare with one another. You can see that the X1600 is very close in performance to the newer X2400 video card.
Quake 4 – High Quality
| Video Card | 1280×1024 | 1600×1200 |
| MSI X2400 | 47.1 | 37.1 |
| GeForce 7600 | 45.8 | 60.3 |
| PowerColor X1600 Pro | 46.34 | 45.30 |
Quake 4 may be an older game, but it is still very popular. Again, the cards compare very well with each other, and the X1600 provides more frames than you need for smooth gameplay.

What a waste of time this article was. Anyone who reads it, DONT BY THIS CARD EVER, there are far faster and cheaper cards out there, this card is ancient.
I know this card is old, but it's been sitting in our labs for too long without a review. We've tested this card many times but hadn't published an article. So there ya go…
why was this card even reviewed at all very old card that any 3xxx or 4xxx ATI card can out perform
You gotta be kidding. X1600? This card is not even manufactured anymore.
What the hell is this? X1600? "Ultimate Gaming Performance"? Back… to the future!
Wow, at least mention this card came out in Oct. 2005!!! for the same price you can get a HD 4670.
Oh, and by the way, this card came out in October of 2005. It likes long walks on the beach and candlelight dinners on the terrace after rough kink.
There are far faster and cheaper, I agree. I would bet my life that Joos knows each and every one of them. And I'm not talking about cards. There are several different cards out there that are faster, but I wouldn't say cheaper at the same time. If you happen upon a card that is both faster and cheaper, buy it. If you are broke, then spend all your time reading a review just so you have something to bitch about.
