Prey (Xbox 360) Review

Prey is really a 360 title. This is the level of game development that we expect and want in our games. Now I would argue that this is the best FPS on the 360. It’s a close tie between this and Call of Duty, but we are comparing two games in the same genre that are on the opposite ends of the spectrum. This is Sci-fi, and compared to Quake 4 and Perfect Dark Zero, this is the game to play if you enjoy science fistion style action games. I know, I graded both PDZ and Q4 pretty well, and if I would have known this title was to become the current gold standard for science fiction games on the 360, I would have lowered those other two games’ scores.

REPORT CARD : Prey for Xbox 360

Creativity 5 Prey takes a popular genre and then throws in all sorts of wacky gameplay, shriking, gravity defying, out of body experiences and weird environments, this is creativity at it’s finest. Here’s hoping Gears of War makes the same advancements.
Sound 4 It’s got great sound, it’s got great voice work, but Tommy is lacking, play the game and you’ll notice the sometimes insincerity that his voice sometimes has.
Longevity 5 OK, it can be beaten in a weekend, the game has this feature where they A.I adjusts itself to your playing ability which is cool, but this game has some egs because you will want to try and beat it on “Cherokee” mode. For those of you out there obsessed with earning those achievement points, you can rack em up that way. Others who may not care about points, will still want to play again because the game is just that cool. Did I metion the multiplayer mode? I didn’t, well hop online and try your hand at flaying your buddies on that otherworldly ship.
Graphics 5 This is the kind of game that I love, great graphics, cool level design, cool monster design and even weird looking weapons that make you want to frag some baddies. Notice that it isn’t on the original Xbox, PS2 or Gamecube? That’s because those systems simply couldn’t handle the graphic demands that are required for this visual feast.
Fun Factor 5 I had the best time playing this title, you never know when something never seen before is going to pop up, the ingenuity that went into designing this game is clearly a labor of love, my hats off to the developers, Prey kicks butt!
FINAL VERDICT: 5 out of 5 stars
