SteelSeries QcK Heavy Mousepad Review

Both the advantage and disadvantage of smooth mousepads lay in its lack of traction.  If you have a corded mouse (as many gamers do), then you may notice that the mouse cord may push on the mouse, causing it to move when you take your hand off (a possibly fatal mistake in any FPS).  I’ve noticed that these same mice don’t travel nearly as much (if at all) with a good cloth mousepad because the small amount of resistance keeps the mouse in place.

Many mousepads are rather small. Even with “medium-sized” mousepads I find myself moving the mouse beyond the edge, which can be very annoying no matter what task you’re doing. If my entire desktop could be made out of a mousing surface then I’d be in hog heaven.

Anyone who has been computing for long enough also knows that cloth mousepads also tend to get extremely dirty.  Skin from your wrist and hand flakes off, along with any other dirt on your filthy digits and are embedded within the cloth surface.  This phenomenon becomes glaringly obvious with dark mousepads, as they form a haze of grey where your hand rests.  The litmus test of a dirty pad is if you can scratch your name into the pad with your fingernail.  If you leave a white mark behind, then you have an unsanitary pad.

The SteelSeries QcK Heavy uses the tried and true cloth and rubber pad that most users have grown accustomed to, so it is very comfortable.  The rubber’s extra thickness will certainly smooth over any bumps or ridges you may have on your desk, too.

The need for this oversized rodent den depends greatly on your mousing needs.   If you find yourself going over the edge of your current pad, then the large surface area will certainly please you, but make sure you have enough room to place it.  Since this pad is black, it will also get very dirty.

Performance-wise this pad has the same properties of most other cloth mousepads.  The main advantage of this mousepad is its enormous size, so if you’re a cloth mousepad fan then you’ll love the QcK Heavy.
