Top Tip: Best videocard for less than $150?
Extremetech :: Wednesday, March 14, 2007
I plan to purchase a “barebones” machine off of eBay or some other website. After I ensure I get the processor and RAM that I want I will probably just have $150 left over for the video card. Can you all suggest the best video card out there currently for less than $150?

Top Tip: Windows Vista using too much of my RAM?
Extremetech :: Wednesday, March 14, 2007
However, in my 1024 RAM system, there is 400-500 RAM already taken up by the programs, effectively reducing the gaming experience. What can I do to drop it down? On my old computer, a good ol’ CTRL-ALT-DEL and you could wipe out all the unnecessary programs, but in Vista, they don’t seem to be there. And on the “Services” tab, I’m not sure what to turn off.

ECS NF650iSLIT-A 650i SLI Motherboard Review
Legit Reviews :: Tuesday, March 13, 2007
“ECS put together a decent board in the form of the NF650iSLIT-A. It is a board that performs wonderfully at stock settings. As you could see in our testing, the lack of being able to keep tRCD settings for the memory really only hurt performance in a few of our benchmarks. Overall, the board hung with its competition, which is quite a statement since we have it up against the likes of chipsets like the Intel 975x and Nvidia 680i, as well as a proven winner in the Asus 650i board. In fact, it beat out these boards in some of our tests, proving that ECS and this chipset are both to be commended.”

Ultra X-Finity 800 Watt Power Supply
Dragonsteel Mods :: Tuesday, March 13, 2007
” Without a good power supply in your system it can become cranky, locking up and causing all sorts of havoc. This could be caused by a cheaply made power supply or maybe one that just is not big enough to handle the power requirements of you system. If you look around these days you’ll notice that PSUs seem to be getting bigger and bigger, in wattage and physical size as well. If you are building that uber gaming system that you’ve always wanted then you might want to take a look at what I have for review today, it is an 800 Watt power supply from Ultra called the X-Finity. Along with the Sugo SG01W we will be looking at the SilverStone Element ST50EF-Plus SC power supply.”

How To: Keep Your Kids Safe Online
Digital Trends :: Tuesday, March 13, 2007
“Being online is part of the world of every kid these days. For teenagers it’s the main way of communicating with friends (along with their cell phones), while younger ones use it for gaming (such things as Runescape, for example) and research. It’s an inescapable fact of life, and kids spend an average of 16 hours a week online – a figure that continues to rise. But how safe are they in cyberspace?”

iOne Gemini-R16 Keyboard & Mouse Combo
PC Apex :: Tuesday, March 13, 2007
“The office group has hot keys to open Word and Excel. It also has another “lock” key like number lock, when it is activated, the F1 through F12 keys become hotkeys. Those hotkeys perform functions like opening and saving documents, and keys for email functionality. The best hotkey Is F8 (spell check) you can also find other common office hotkeys like copy, paste, mark etc. on this keyboard. The internet group has the standard buttons, Home, Mail, Search etc… The multimedia buttons are all nicely grouped together. They CAN control the playback and volume of Media Player 11 and with no issues!”

Abit AW9D Max Motherboard Review
Overclockers Club :: Tuesday, March 13, 2007
“Here is a quick look at the bios options that are most important to those individuals looking for an enthusiast type product. From the factory Abit gives you a 6 mhz overclock. They know their market it seems. Each of the voltages that are available to adjust have a marked impact on increasing performance, particularly the MCH and PCIe voltage.”

Abit AB9 Quad GT Review
Neoseeker :: Tuesday, March 13, 2007
“The Quad GT proved its mettle during gaming and overclocking benchmarks. While it is becoming increasingly familiar to see other P965 based motherboards get up to still very hard to reach 500MHz bus overclocks, this specific Abit AB9 Quad GT got up to 488×7 976 4-4-4-12, which is a superb result!”

Silverstone Strider 850W modular PSU Review
Xtreme Computing :: Tuesday, March 13, 2007
“the PSU is more than adequate for a high end system and future high end systems with support for ATX 2.2 and EPS 12V, also the PSU comes with dual PCI-Express 8 pin connectors, something we will be shortly seeing appearing on cards, don’t worry though there is also 4x normal 6 pin connectors for those seeking quad sli, or just wanting to run 2×8800 GTX cards”

Zippy Emacs 500w PSU review
Driver Heaven :: Tuesday, March 13, 2007
“When it comes to power supplies in the mainstream market it would be fair to say that the name “Zippy” wouldn’t be the first to spring to mind, however since 1993 they have been manufacturing PSU’s for servers as well as redundant power supplies. They also produce a range of keyboards, mice, ceramic components and switches – they are a versatile company in the truest sense of the word.

Recently Zippy launched a range of Gaming PSU’s and today’s review product is one such model. The (HP2-6500PE(G1) ) is a 500w SLI certified model which is aimed at mainstream systems rather than the ultra high end. Let’s see if Zippy can take the reliability of their server PSU’s and add gaming performance to the mix.”

The CoolIT Eliminator CPU Cooler Review
Legit Reviews :: Tuesday, March 13, 2007
For those that are familiar with water cooling the CoolIT Eliminator uses the same basic method, but uses three solid-state TECs to cool the coolant down rather than a traditional radiator. Water is pumped from the +12V water pump through tubing to the CPU water block. Once the coolant leaves the water block it becomes ‘hot’ and is cooled down by going through not one, but three TECs. This process works really well as the cold side of the TEC plate can easily cool the water, but the heat from the hot side of the plate still needs to be handled. To get rid of the heat generated from the TECs, CoolIT uses a radial heat sink to absorb the heat. A 92x92x38mm fan then sucks air through the radial heat sink and blows the air out of the case…

Jetart HCA06 HDD cooler Review
XS Reviews :: Tuesday, March 13, 2007
“With CPU’s under peltiers and graphics cards connected to your mains water supply, hard discs are left to sweat in the corner of your case. Heat and HDD’s don’t mix; you end up with a shorter life span which means more expenditure. To counter the temperature onslaught, Jetart have created a simple hard disc cooler which should end your woes…”

Seagate 750GB Barracuda ES Enterprise Hard Drive Review
Tech ARP :: Tuesday, March 13, 2007
“Enterprise-grade hard drives have always been expensive. Really, REALLY expensive. But what if you could have the performance and reliability of enterprise-grade hard drives with the capacity and cost of desktop hard drives?

Introducing the Seagate Barracuda ES enterprise hard drive. With a massive capacity of 750GB and a much lower cost per MB, this drive may be just the thing for your next server upgrade. ”

CeBIT 2007 coverage from Taiwan (Part 1)
Tweak Town :: Tuesday, March 13, 2007
“We managed to get the low down on Intel’s upcoming P35 Bearlake chipset with native 1333 FSB and DDR-3 memory support. We got our first look at some brand spankin’ new DDR-3 memory modules. Albatron was showing working nVidia MXM modules along with some fancy Mini-ITX motherboards. TEAM Memory showed us 64GB and 128GB IDE and SATA Solid State drives. MSI were showing a range of new products including a portable device capable of picking up digital TV on the run. ABIT showed us a range of their upcoming Intel Bearlake motherboards and the list goes on.

Put your seatbelt on for Part 1 and prepare yourself for the ride! We are bringing you this content about a full day before CeBIT Germany 2007 begins and well ahead of any other publications. Part 2 will be online March 14th covering everything else that wasn’t covered here.”

Intel P35 “Bearlake” Chipset Performance Preview
Tweak Town :: Tuesday, March 13, 2007
“While Intel does charge more for its chipsets, their development department does do a lot of work alongside their partners. While they have made some mistakes in the past (but we think just about every chipset manufacturer has had a few bad products) their current line has seen nothing but success.

Now it’s time for Intel to start on its next generation of chipsets to support their bunch of upcoming Dual Core and Quad Core processors later this year and next such as Yorkfield and Wolfdale. They processors are based on 45nm technology and faster FSB and more onboard cache. These new chipsets are now dubbed the “3” series with new naming and features for each and are all based around the new Bearlake architecture. Today we are previewing the mid-range P35 chipset in the form of a pre-release product from one of our partners.”

ECS AMD690GM-M2 V1.0A Motherboard Review
Motherboards.org :: Tuesday, March 13, 2007
The ECS board is in many respects similar to the ASUS board I reviewed at the AMD launch of the 690G chipset. The motherboard comes with the most bare of essentials in terms of bundle, as the board comes with a single SATA cable and a single IDE cable.

Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA Motherboard
Pro Clockers :: Tuesday, March 13, 2007
The 4CoreDual-VSTA from Asrock is based on the newest chipset form VIA. The PT880 Ultra is low cost way for many end users to retain usage of their older AGP video card and upgrade to PCI-e units when time and money permits. And when that time comes you can leave that AGP card in and still integrate your new PCI-e card as well. Leaving the ability to use multiple monitors.

Cooler Master iTower 930 Case Review
Hi-Tech Reviews :: Tuesday, March 13, 2007
Cooler Master has become synonymous with designing cases that are not only well designed but extremely easy on the eyes to look at. The iTower 930 is no exception, with its aluminum front bezel and four hot swappable hard drives the 930 leaves very little to for a person to ask to complete the case.

Foxconn FV-N88SMCD2-ONOC Geforce 8800GTS-320MB Videocard Review
PC Stats :: Tuesday, March 13, 2007
The Foxconn FV-N88SMCD2-ONOC videocard is based entirely on the ‘G80’ reference design, not a surprise since most manufacturers have gone this route. During testing the FV-N88SMCD2-ONOC was extremely quiet even during high 3D load levels. That’s great news for gamers the FV-N88SMCD2-ONOC is not just fast, it’s also quiet. Instead of bundling games that get old and out of date, Foxconn includes a swanky USB 3D game pad with the FV-N88SMCD2-ONOC videocard. After trying it out in a few games, you know for “testing purposes” we all agreed that the PS2 like controller added a new dimension to computer game play.”

Arctic Cooling Accelero S2 Video Card Cooler Review
RB Mods :: Tuesday, March 13, 2007
Like most other computer components, we’ve seen tremendous gains in the level of video card performance, as manufacturers push the envelope and develop new technology. Unfortunately, along with those gains typically comes an unwanted byproduct- heat. Arctic Cooling, well-known manufacturers of a wide range of cooling products, has developed a new line of passive VGA coolers that claim to reduce heat significantly without producing any noise. Too good to be true? That’s what we’re here to find out today.
