Tomb Raider Anniversary Review

Despite my complaints about the combat and savepoints, there is nothing to sneeze at here. This is a solid puzzle game with many, many hours of play to be enjoyed. If a newcomer like me can just pick it up and have fun, I imagine a returning TR veteran will have even more fun in the process.

You don’t have to buy the full game to play it. For only 99 cents you can play Tomb Raider Anniversary in its entirety over at GameTap, and they also have other Tomb Raider games and out-of-print PC titles.

Enjoy the highly detailed outdoors and inner spaces

category rating comments
Creativity 3 The puzzles are good, but “fetch key, unlock door” is a very, very long shot from breaking new ground.
Sound 4 It’s very quiet game, but what little sound there is gets the job done.
Longevity 4 The one thing holding it back from a perfect 5 is that it’s a strict single-player experience with limited options for making it stretch.
Fun Factor 4 Frustrating savepoints and unnecessarily tough spots distract a little, but overall this is a LOT of entertainment for the money.
Graphics 5 The graphics are the most highly detailed and complex of any Tomb Raider game.
FINAL VERDICT: 4 out of 5 stars
