Valve Unpeels The Orange Box

Since Source 2.0’s engine supports so many new rendering options, we may not get the insane framerates we see when running Half-Life 2 on a GeForce 8800GTX (or 6600GT for that matter).  You can bet your sweet bippy that [OC]ModShop will do a comparisson and report on the results when the game(s) is(are) available.

I asked if Xbox 360 and PC users would be able to play together, since Microsoft is making this possible with their “Games for Windows” initiative.  Unfortunately, PC gamers can only play other PC gamers, and Xbox Live gamers can only compete with other Xbox Live gamers.  Steam always updates its games automatically (so you always have the latest patches), so it is possible that the PC version of The Orange Box may one day interface with Xbox Live.

The Orange Box is available now, and is a likely to give Halo 3 a run for its money as a “Game of the Year” candidate.  Even if it is edged out of the Xbox 360 category, Valve is likely to take the title for Best PC Game of the Year.  We’ll have our full review of The Orange Box within the coming days.
