Fix: Sothink DHTML Menu Not Showing Preview

As a web developer, I use Sothink’s DHTML Menu creator as a valuable tool.  Why reinvent the wheel if you don’t have to, right?

Unfortunately I came across a weird problem when installing their latest version on Windows 7.  Saved templates will not show up in a preview: in the preview area or in the Template Management window.  Apparently this program wants to use Internet Explorer’s engine, even if it is not the default browser, and this problem is caused (yet again) by Microsoft’s integration of IE into the operating system.

To fix this, you have to edit your registry and get rid of one of the Zones in Internet Explorer.

Open up:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones

You will see several sub-folders (0,1,2, etc).  There will be a folder with a special character for a name.

Delete the sub-folder with the special character.

Close and re-open SoThink DHTML Menu Creator and the problem should be fixed.

I use this tool as a shortcut for many UI projects, but I have noticed that it steals a LOT of CPU cycles on the client running it, even when the menu isn't active.

When using "Localhost/index.php" command in browser, Menu didn't appear. I don't know why. Would anybody solve this problem?
