BlueTake iPhono Plus Bluetooth Stereo Headset
LAN Addict :: Wednesday, April 26, 2006
BlueTake\’s iPhono Plus is a pretty decent headset, especially for a wireless device. The sound that you get is much better than I thought possible from such small speakers. One thing that will factor into your enjoyment of the iPhono Plus will be your PC\’s ability to multitask. I found that the PC I use at work is not very good at streaming audio while I was trying to do anything else. If I just play music or work, everything was fine.

Ice Age 2: The Meltdown Video Game Review
Gamer’s Hell :: Tuesday, April 18, 2006
“Oh no,” I thought. It’s a film tie-in. It’s a platform game and it features mini-games. Should I drill holes in it? Should I grind it into powder and offer it to the next strong breeze? Should I just stack it with all those free CDs I get with the newspaper and for some reason never throw away? In the end I gave it a chance and fortunately, it’s not that bad.
The ice age is coming to an end. The glaciers are melting, which means that soon the valley’s going to be flooded. You play the game as Scrat, a saber-toothed squirrel, accompanying the other animals from the film as they try and cross the valley to safety.

FW: ForceWare 84 Series Roundup
NGOHQ :: Thursday, April 13, 2006
Quote: “The software always had a great influence over our hardware. We always like to see the manufactures keep updating their software and to solve bugs and to introduce new features. But it’s not the case with NVIDIA, in every week we see many leaked versions of their driver and we can never know what’s new in these drivers. We already have eight builds of the ForceWare 84 series so far. Today we’re going to test all the ForceWare 84 Series in both performance and image quality fields. We spent the entire weekend making this juicy roundup for your viewing pleasure; so which driver is the fastest? And which one is providing the best image quality? Read on to find out.”

ETROM: The Astral Essence (PC)
Strategy Informer :: Tuesday, April 11, 2006
One of the most important things a game maker can do is to ensure that a game works. When I say works, I mean does not crash randomly every so often. There is nothing more irritating than games that do this. Etrom: The Astral Essence crashed more times than a drunk driver on crack, and it made for a very disappointing experience indeed.
In short, this game needs to be taken back home by its ear and given a good spanking. It has potential, but it was not ready to be released by a long shot.

“With E3 only weeks away, Microsoft just couldn’t keep quiet with their upcoming game releases for the Xbox 360. On Thursday, April 6, the Bytesector crew was invited to the Drake Hotel in Toronto to sample a taste of these upcoming titles, which by the way, looked a lot better than some of the launch titles we saw at X’05 last year. Call this a mini-X’06 if you will; approximately 15 releases were playable and on display; some of which are either being released today or in a matter of weeks, and others such as X-Men: The Official Game that are still in their beta stages.”
True Crime: New York City (PC)
Strategy Informer :: Friday, April 07, 2006
Like Grand Theft Auto, but, not. It has always been beyond me why companies try to copy other successful formulas. Inevitably its not going to work. Inevitably you’re going to get a second rate piece of rubbish, and inevitably everyone is going to compare it to the decent version and laugh at yours and give it self esteem issues. So why do it? I don’t know.

360Sata Adapter High-Res Samples Pictures
Xbox-Scene :: Sunday, April 02, 2006
Here are some high-res quality pictures of the final 360Sata Adapter sample we got. It allows you to easily connect your Xbox 360 HD to your PC without opening the HDD case. It comes with a printed color manual explaining how to connect it (it’s very important you don’t connect it upside down: one side has data lines and the other side has power lines and you don’t want to inverse those). You’ll have to connect the adapter it with an SATA-cable (not included) to your PC (either using an SATA-to-USB adapter, SATA PCI card or motherboard SATA port if it has one). For power you need a simple 4pin molex from your PC PSU, so no need for an SATA powerconnector. Using software like Xplorer360(info) or wxHdd(info) you can then access your Xbox 360 HD on your PC. This adapter was initially produced in very low quantity (and it’s currently not in stock), but they are now in the process of mass producing the adapter according to their site, so it should be widely available soon.

Sony trounces MSFT & Nintendo in brand trust survey
Joystiq :: Sunday, April 02, 2006
Forrester Research has published a new report that examines the trust that American households place in PC and consumer electronics (CE) brands, including the brands of Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony. The results may be surprising to gamers.
In Forrester’s analysis, Sony’s brand garnered the highest marks of the three companies (Sony also ranked 3rd out of 22 companies), earning an average grade of A plus. Of the companies surveyed, only Bose and Dell ranked higher than Sony overall. Meanwhile, Microsoft’s brand ranked 20 out of 22 brands, dragged down by low brand trust. Nintendo’s played 17 out of 22, pulled towards the bottom of the ranking by low brand potential and low brand adoption.
One figure from the report showed how the companies compared on the dimensions of brand potential and brand trust. In this figure, Sony and Nintendo were clustered together in the middle of the pack, with Sony enjoying higher trust and higher potential. Microsoft, however, was hovering near the origin, a clear outlier position indicating that the company will fight an uphill battle in trying to win consumers over to its CE and PC products.

Xbox 360 Working NES Emulator Through MCE
Xbox-Scene :: Sunday, April 02, 2006
I’ve attached a link to a version of NESCafe that works through Media Center on the Xbox 360. This is currently setup to run at 480p (Widescreen). You can edit the nes.htm file if it does not fit correctly on your screen. I haven’t found a way to add a menu for the roms list so you will have to edit the nes.htm and change to whatever Nes rom you want to play. I’ve included a Public Domain rom for testing but have verified Zelda1-2, Excitebike, and TecmoBowl and all worked.
INSTALL: You will need to extract the rar into C:Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\Media Center\Media Center Programs\ on your media center box. It took a bit for the icon to show up under More Programs but it finally will.
NOTES: Sound is not functioning, Media Center 2005 is required. If it locks up you will need to run something that warns you that it is a web page and check the box that says “Don’t show this again”. Once you do that it should run fine. I created an MCL that just went to Google and then checked that box. I’ve also attached an image with the mapping of the Xbox Controller to the corresponding keyboard keys.
