In all honesty though the game is pretty good but lacks something that makes it a great game. Overall, Left Behind: Eternal forces is an interesting game and true die hard fans of the book series will love it, but regular gamers might not. Left Behind: Eternal Forces deals with things that are a bit controversial, which doesn’t bother me at all, in fact I like controversy, but there are people out there who hate this game and those people have never even seen or played it. Call of Duty 2 stood out as one of the most prominent launch titles for the Xbox 360 last year with its jaw dropping visuals and intense combat experience. Instead of being developed by Infinity Ward, however, Call of Duty 3 was made Treyarch, the makers responsible for Big Red One on the PlayStation 2. Although the gameplay mechanics haven’t evolved much, the immensely revamped multiplayer modes and great production values make this release worthy of the Call of Duty name.

Dark Messiah is set in the great universe of Might and Magic. This universe hosted so many great games in the past, games that are now considered classics… I can’t count all the sleepless nights I had, playing the nostalgic Might & Magic series, let alone, the amazing Heroes of Might & Magic series… Although not all the games were successful (Legends, Crusaders, Warriors etc.), I am always excited to examine yet a new game set in this fantastic universe.
So, when I heard Dark Messiah was out there, I decided to put on my shining plate armor, place my magical sword in its curved heavy leather scabbard and go out to face my next dangerous quest to conquer my copy and bring it back safely into my DVD for installation.

Rated G for all audiences is something only usually found in kiddies movies or something really boring. The game Railroads, is a game for all people of all age groups or cultures, or if by the odd chance you are from another planet you too. There is nothing offensive about the game in any way and yet its still fun and exciting to play without the drama or violence associated with most games nowadays. Learning the game is half the fun if you enjoy a game that makes you learn and not a sour puss over losing a few times. I used the game to hone my skills at working well in a predefined parameter and excelling over the virtual dead dudes constant annoyance. I was finally able to beat the game and win as the Prime Minister, but that was after about a week of gameplay learning the fine points of trains and railroads. After about a month of playing the game I can sum it all up to two words my stalwart chums. All Aboard!!

With 2007 finally at our doorsteps we can take a look at what 2006 brought us in terms of gaming. All of the platforms received plenty of great games so spending hours upon hours in front of a screen was not uncommon. The 360 got its share of great games and even PSP owners weren’t left out. PC gamers got swamped with roleplaying and strategy games while the PS2 crowd got another batch of superior titles. The PS3 showed that Sony still knows how to market their goods and both the DS and the Wii sold like hotcakes.

I really enjoyed playing the game Commandos Strike force. I think it has an excellent story and excellent battle scenes. I enjoyed how the shooting and gameplay was in this game, and the action was cool too. The controls are basic so it wasn’t hard to play and I didn’t have to learn any new controls to play this title. The bottom line here is, if you like Great War games and love first person shooter games, then this is an excellent game for you and I think you should give this game a try. You’ll probably like it. This is a great first person shooter game and I thank Pyro studios and Eidos for making this game. Gamers Choice Silver on this WW2 masterpiece.

Just Cause can be a ton of fun for the right type of gamer, as I am aware many people have gotten sick of most of the GTA style games, me included. It seems that such games are always the same thing over and over, all about being a ‘gangsta’, and glorifying that particular lifestyle. This one definitely stands out above all the others, and takes a new approach to the open world game. Overthrowing an oppressive and corrupt government is a lot of fun without constantly having to do drive by shootings to pass the time. From that first moment you jump out over San Esperito and meet up with your friends on the ground, this game can suck you in.

It’s fair to say that spending years on NWN with the countless (free) modules that were available on the internet and the very robust online component was (and still is) easier than one might think. Buffalo will be launching the HDV-ROM2.4FB at the end of this month. Officially this HD-DVD drive (OEMed by Toshiba) will be the world’s first HD-DVD drive for PCs. Some high-end PCs already shipped with HD-DVD drives, but until now it was impossible to buy any ATAPI HD-DVD drives sold independently for PCs. Next to HD-DVD discs, the device will of course also read all previous formats: DVD±R/RW, DVD±R/R DL, DVD-ROM and CD-R/RW/ROM. The device will retail for about 38850JPY, thats ~337usd/254eur. Seems a bit expensive considering the Xbox 360 HD-DVD Addon is already available right now for just 199usd and can be used in Windows Vista (natively) and Windows XP (with some special drivers) too. The only thing missing in the Xbox360 HD-DVD package is PC software to playback HD-DVD movies. The Buffalo drive comes with PowerDVD HD-DVD Edition.

Lets start with the Basics. HD-DVD has the potential to be 36.55 Megabits per second, but tends to average about half of that. Marketplace videos or at least the one I checked out ‘V for Vendetta’ is 6.5 Megabits VBR. Account for 720p vs 1080p and you are looking at about 2.25 more pixels so pixels per bit the two are pretty close.
Conclusion HD-DVD is spectacular I was unable to find a single artifact in the copy of ‘V for Vendetta’ the same was true for Tokyo Drift which is rather hard content to encode. Marketplace videos on most TV’s in most home theatres, also spectacular. You being the Video enthusiast and cocky SOB that you probably think you have a home theatre that the quality difference will matter, well you are probably wrong.
Unless you have: * A 1080p Display, that really runs at 1920×1080 as its native resolution. * Have paid someone to calibrate the TV to reference, not the Dynamic, or Vibrant mode that many TV’s are set to. * Have disabled noise reduction on your TV. * Are Viewing in a theatre lit room.
Australian Law lets modders back into consoles

Games console makers such as Sony Computer Entertainment and Microsoft may need to re-engineer anti-piracy technology in consoles made for the Australian market to stop consumers using illegal game titles, according to law firm Minter Ellison.
Amendments to Australia’s copyright laws expected to be passed this week will make it legal for consumers to use modified chips (mod-chips) that circumvent anti-piracy technology built into game consoles if they also overcome measures that restrict the use of DVDs and games titles purchased legally in other regions.
Minter Ellison special counsel Carolyn Dalton said technology measures designed to restrict use of copyright material in geographic regions, including coding built into DVD players and games consoles, won’t be given special protection under the law. Games manufacturers will need to have technology in their consoles to deal with region coding and copyright protection that operate independently.

Well, this is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. I’ve torn apart a wired 360 controller, put the guts in a pretty box and soldered some arcade buttons and a joystick to it. Thought I’d publish this to give you all an idea of how it can be done and just for general inspiration.
The name, Gyokusho is actually stolen from a japanese chess variant called Shogi. The equivalent of the king is called the Gyokusho or “Jade general”. The short hand for that is the sign you can see in the middle of the controller (see image below). Oh, and by the way, it’s huge.

We expected the PlayStation 3 to ship with several games that first appeared on the Xbox 360, similar to how the Xbox 360 had a lot of Xbox ports at launch. And the PS3 did indeed arrive with a good number of games that originally shipped for the Xbox 360. This gave us the perfect opportunity to compare the graphics on both systems with several cross-platform games. You’d think that the PS3 versions would be exactly the same or slightly superior to the Xbox 360 versions, since many of these games appeared on the 360 months ago, but it seems like developers didn’t use the extra time to polish up the graphics for the PS3. We found that the Xbox 360 actually had better graphics in the majority of the games we compared.
Conclusion The Xbox 360 had better graphics in almost all the games we examined. The 360’s biggest victories were in Madden 07 and Fight Night Round 3, where the differences in texture detail and lighting stood out in our comparison shots. We couldn’t capture this in the screenshots, but the Xbox 360 games generally offered better framerates too. We’re going to give the PS3 the benefit of the doubt in this initial round since developers might need more time to figure out how to maximize performance from the Cell and the RSX. If you look at the Xbox 360’s first Madden game, Madden 06, you’ll notice that it doesn’t offer very realistic stadium shadows, either. The trouble with buying a console at launch is that you often have to wait for the second or third generation of games for the system to fulfill its potential. The PS3 didn’t beat the 360 in this first comparison, but the games do look fine for first-generation titles. The real graphics battle will likely come next year.

Since the series debuted on the original PlayStation with the aptly named title Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, it was pretty clear that Activision knew how to make one fine skateboarding game. After being placed in one of many skater paradises, you had the ability to rip and shred all day long without a care in the world. Now, the Tony Hawk series is moving away from traditional skate parks and into downhill race environments in Downhill Jam. Not to be confused with the also recently released Project 8, Downhill Jam significantly changes the style of this famed game, and it does an alright job with the newly implemented formula.

At a first glance it’s hard not to be skeptical when you’re faced with a vibrant game about piñatas that’s based on a show airing on 4Kids TV. While the flashy colors and an overall appearance geared towards the younger demographic may seem queer at first, Viva Piñata offers a surprisingly deep garden simulation experience that can be extremely rewarding in the long run. Starting off with a meager plot of barren land, the undeniable charm in this game can grasp you from the start and never let go.

For almost two decades, millions of geeks all over the world have enjoyed the famous board game created by Rick Priestley that is known as Warhammer 40,000. These fictional battles carried out in dark murky basements with the help of dice always had an untapped potential to be an amazing video game that was only realized in September 2004 when Dawn of War was released by the pioneering developers Relic Entertainment. Gamers everywhere instantly fell in love with the fast and refreshing style of gameplay that was unique to the Warhammer trademark and thus, it wasn’t surprising to see a new expansion one year later called Winter Assault, adding the notorious Imperial Guard to the already numerous amount of races. But of course, the Canadian developers didn’t stop there and as a result, we are blessed with their latest game based on the sci-fi universe; Warhammer 40,000: Dark Crusade.

Dark Messiah Might and Magic is not for everyone, but I had a lot of fun playing the game. The combination of the action adventure game ala Tomb Raider with RPG elements ala Might and Magic works for me. The game has a few “wow” moments like when you first fight the Cyclops one on one and figure out you aren’t doing any damage with spells or weapons. Replay ability in the game is pretty good. You can play the game as a fighter, a mage an archer as your primary focus, and then replay the game using different skills. The game also has a couple of places where a choice can affect the outcome.

Although it was originally planned to span across six games, Monolith Software’s Xenosaga series came to a surprise ending with the release of Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra. In order to answer all of the lingering questions that the first two titles left us wondering, you can rest assured knowing that this release is packed with tons of cinematics and plot driven dialog to finish off one of the most engaging storylines in video game history. While there is certainly a ton of information to be taken in here, long time fans can expect this trilogy to finish off on a strong note.
