Cosplay is defined as: Literally “Costume Play.” Dressing up and pretending to be a fictional character (usually a sci-fi, comic book, or anime character). Cosplay is considered both a noun and a verb. As a noun it can mean the actual costume someone wears, and as a verb is the action of wearing said costume. Costumes are usually worn at anime and gaming convention as a form of self-expression, and are used to show support for their favorite character or franchise, just as football fans display their jerseys to support their team.
Gamers have an unusual amount of pride in their creations, and many of these costumes are rather elaborate. It is also interesting to see a fictional character that is typically on a 2-dimentional screen brought to life in the “real” (although seriously distorted) world.
What PAX lacks in booth babes it certainly makes up for with cosplay. There were several elaborate costumes, and some of the sexiest Babes at PAX (see our PAX10 Babe Gallery here) were in costume. Most (if not all) of the cosplayers were begging for attention, and I was never refused an offer to take their picture for publication.

Here is some more of the cosplay characters that fans were cosplaying. Before you go judging any of these guys, remember that cosplayers only look silly for 2 to 3 days out of the year: punks, gangstas, goths and jocks (and other seemingly “normal” people) look silly EVERY DAY!
