The 8800 is a Freakin' Heater!

I finally broke down and got an nVidia 8800 video card (only the 320MB version).

It performs great but is the hottest video card nVidia has ever put out!  Since nVidia hasn’t had the greatest success introducing a new chip AND manufacturing process at the same time, they use the same 90mm fab process as the 7800, but has millions of more transistors.

So, the 8800 chip is one huge mofo, and generates a LOT of heat.  At load and stock cooling, the chip gets up to 170 degrees F, and 150 degrees idle!  The hottest my 7800 would get was 158 degrees under load and 116 at idle.

Guess it will keep my office toasty this winter…
