Quake 4 XBOX 360 Review

I really am enjoying the hell out of this game. Aside from a really strong single player game, Quake 4 has a strong online game that allows you to log on to Xbox live and really load up on some dammage. Whether it’s a deathmatch style of game or a co-op mode, you can hop online, find some players and do it up to your liking. There are several styles of multiplayer matches: Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Single elimination tournament. Plenty to do here folks, and lots of folks playing out there online.

But when all is said and done, Quake 4 is a decent title to have if you own an Xbox 360. Quake 4 features good graphics, excellent sound and a on-par edition to one of gaming’s most hallowed titles. So break it down.

Originality	4	FPS shooters where a single lone soldier leads a crack team of military warriors into battle is nowhere new. But Quake 4 does bring some original elements to this tried and true genre. The transformation into a Strogg, the “our turn to invade” storyline, it’s good, but is not raising the bar. It is scary though.
Sound	5	It’s easily one of the strongest points for me regarding this title. A dynamic use of the surround sound practically immerses you into the thick of battle. Loud explosions, strong voice acting and the rat-a-tat of gunfire coming out of every speaker. I’m sweating just thinking about it.
Innovation	3	I don’t know if this title is “innovative” as they do borrow from many other titles (including the previous in the series) in regards to vehicle driving, strike assaults with A.I. Marines, and the whole “scary” alien thing. Still, it is fun.
Longevity	4	You know, you can play through the single player campaign in a weekend, provided you devote some time to it. But the game gets it’s legs from the online games you can play and will play for a long, long time.
Graphics	5	Wow, smooth frame rate, massive locations, fast load times, kick-ass weapons, mean looking aliens, non-stop action, killer A.I., bloody violence and a partridge in a pear tree.
Fun Factor	4	Yes you will play this game for a long time, and yes there is a lot of action to be had here but the game only takes you so far, it doesn’t take you anywhere you haven’t already been. Not that it’s a bad thing but still, I’m being honest here. A fun game but the deja vu’ is there.
