It’s time for our monthly AeroCool case review and today we are going to be looking at a case that was designed for a lower price point but in my opinion it looks like it could sell for far more than the $75.00 that Newegg is currently charging. I’m not normally a fan of mid-sized cases but the AeroCool AeroEngine II won me over this time, it has enough good features to make me forget the bad ones I associate with the smaller cases. So come on along as we check out this little gem and perhaps you will become a believer as I did that this is indeed a very nice little case.

FOR THE PAST 12 months, Intel and AMD have praised the merits of their respective dual-core CPU designs and focused on thread-level parallelism as the key to better perfomance, while gradually distancing themselves from the old “clock speed” performance standard. Although Intel beat AMD by a handful of weeks when it came time to formally launch dual-core desktop systems, AMD was the first company to offer dual-core solutions across the server, workstation, and desktop markets.

With dual-core CPUs firmly established, neither manufacturer has been talking much about single-core processors in the workstation market–but the high-end single-core processor still has a hand or two to play before it makes a final exit. AMD’s recent stealth launch of the Opteron 254 at 2.8GHz ensures that the limelight stays focused on their dual-core products, while the Opteron 254 offers an intriguing option for buyers caught on the fence between lower-speed, dual-core and higher-clocked, single-core processors.

Ever since we first reviewed an early version of Snapstream’s B1eyond TV, I have had some form of Shuttle box or the like running this program in Damage Labs, ready to stream video over the local network to any box in the house. This setup’s existence has been suspended for many months between my intentions–to build a real HTPC for use in the living room to replace the TiVo–and various realities involving the relative difficulty of building a truly adequate TiVo replacement and my own available time. Then my HTPC project got a jolt over the weekend when, out of nowhere, the Toshiba DVD player in my living room gave up the ghost. Suddenly, it was time to build a basic HTPC right away.
