After months of speculation, the Steam Frame has finally released and it is cheaper than many people expected. It was expected to be over $1000, but many figured the base price would be $1200. It turns out that the high-level model is $1299.
The realistic price with all of the bells and whistles is $1500, when you include the 1TB model with comfort option ($59) and color passthrough-module ($150). You can get prescription lenses put in, and price will vary, but a third party will sell you those.
The Steam Frame is not for everyone, and we go over if the Steam Frame makes sense for you. If you are into the Steam ecosystem, want dedicated wifi streaming, or just don’t like Meta then you will be really interested in the Steam Frame.
Another interesting use case is playing Nintendo 3DS games in stereoscopic 3D. Since the Frame is a PC, you can install EmuDeck directly on the Frame and play emulators just like you can on the Steam Deck or Steam Machine.
