Globalwin CAK-II 38 Heatsink Review

I installed the Globalwin CAK-II 38 to my normal test system, I had a little trouble installing the heatsink and removing it as well because of the clip. I would like to have seen a better clip on this heatsink espcially one that does not require a screwdriver. I plugged the fan into the 3-4 pin adapter and then plugged the RPM monitoring plug into one of my motherboard headers.

Test Bed

  • MSI KT7 Pro 2-A
  • Duron 800Mhz
  • 512MB PC133 RAM
  • Asus v7700 Geforce 2 GTS
  • 300w Antec PSU

Again like always I will be using the external thermal probe to take the temperatures. Also I will be using Artic Silver 3 rather than the thermal pad. I let the computer idle for about 30 minutes and took the readings. I then used Prime95 to torture test the CPU and bring it to its load temperature, as you can see both temperatures are really at 36.8 degrees Celsius at load.

I then overclocked the Duron to 1000Mhz at default voltage and redid the testing as I did before at stock speed. As you can see this heatsink continues to performs great while overclocked, keeping the CPU at 43 degrees Celsius at load.

Conclusion

I was really impressed with this heatsink and it is one of the best that I have tested so far. The Globalwin CAK-II 38 performs very well, temperatures on the overclocked Duron could not get much better. I like the solid copper design of this HSF and the fact that you get a 3-4 pin adapter which allows for RPM monitoring.

I did not like a few things, again the clip I never like any that you need to use a screwdriver with, they provide a thermal pad rather than a compound and the delta is loud. If you are looking for a great heatsink which will keep your socket A CPU nice and cool this would be a very good choice. If you want the best results with it I would also buy some thermal compound like Artic Silver 3 while you are at it. I would like to thank Ian from 2CoolTek for sending me this heatsink to review, head on over and check out his store.
