If you’ve read our other Otterbox reviews, then I don’t need to reiterate just how well-made and rugged these things are. They can take a beating, can withstand heavy pressure, and they float. I really prefer a bright color so that it can be easily identified if it goes overboard.
The case isn’t extremely large, which can be both an advantage and disadvantage, depending on how you look at it. This case was intended to house all of your gadgets, so your professional SLR camera won’t fit in it, but your MP3 player, cell phone, USB drive, GPS and cables will. I have way too many gadgets with me at any given time, and I can easily stuff them into this case. The case also has a small ring on the left latch, so you can easily use a padlock on it to prevent unauthorized entry. On the right side is a loop to attach a strap, which can be handy to keep the case around your neck, arm, or whatever helps you feel secure.

High-quality latches keep it shut tight
The inside of the case has a nice amount of “pluck foam”, which is basically just foam that has been perforated so you can pull out little squares to accomodate any gadgets you want. The foam block is 3.6″ x 7.5″ x 3.26″ (91.59mm x 191.74mm x 84.48mm). You can create any custom shape that you wish, but be advised that you can’t re-attach the foam like velcro. You can stuff the foam back in place, but then the foam pieces are loose. I would recommend plucking out standard shapes that will fit most devices, like an upright MP3 player or cell phone. If your device will stand up inside the case, then carve out a place to maximize the available space inside the oblong foam block. Overall a very good way to customize the inside of the case, but it’s not meant for frequent drastic changes.

What makes the case waterproof is its professional ridged seal and heavy-duty latches. The upper and lower rim of the lid and base are notched with hard rubber so they fit together like a lock-and-key. It is hard to completely close the lid by hand, but snapping the latches shut makes a waterproof seal.

Foam! Glorious Pluck-Foam!
The case is made from extremely strong ABS Plastic. You see all the raised portions of the case? That’s the design which makes it virtually crush-proof. I wouldn’t tempt fate by throwing it on train tracks, but it is certainly military grade and can withstand extreme conditions. Not TOO extreme like throwing it in a fire. You might want to invest in a fireproof safe for your house if you’re really that cautious.
