The case is hardcore, but at least your iPod is easily accessible. Some Otterbox products can be difficult to pry open, but this case can be opened with a hard push of only one thumb. It is a good thing that your iPod is accessible, because you will have to take it out to charge it.
Unlike the Defender series that offers an opening to the charging port, the Armor series requires removing your iPod to put it on a dock or hook it up to a charger. I don’t have any complaints about taking my iPod out because the case is easy to open and there aren’t multiple steps to taking the iPod out.
The headphone jack is located on the top and center of the case, and fits any type of headphones or earbuds with an 1/8” jack. If the headphones don’t fit into your iPod, they won’t fit into the Armor case. The screen cover leaves the iPod video screen very clear, but the thin membrane protection over the clickwheel is another story.
Clicking the wheel to select songs or turn the iPod on and off only takes a little more effort than normal. Running your thumb over the clickwheel to select songs or navigate a menu is a pain in the ass. The sensitivity is decreased dramatically, resulting in uneven scrolling. It may take a few attempts to pick one particular song, which can be annoying.
This case is perfect for someone who takes their iPod outdoors frequently. I like to listen to my iPod while on my bike and the case is great for when it falls out of my pocket. Compared to the other iPod cases, the Armor series is the first one to offer such thorough protection. The price is very doable and the case would make a great gift for your athletic or outdoor type.
