Teams Compete to Create a Game in 48 Hours

by NewsJanuary 12, 2009June 29, 201408

The Global Game Jam 2009 is the first time a game jam will be happening simultaneously all over the world – in the USA, France, Denmark, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, South Africa, Venezuala, Norway, New Zealand, Spain, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Israel, The Netherlands and London.

In a Game Jam, participants come together in small teams over a limited time period to design and develop video games. With the hothouse atmosphere generated by a 24/2 production schedule and with participants coming from far and wide, games tend to be innovative and experimental.

This is an initiative from the International Game Developers’ Association, aiming to bring together game industry developers and students from the around the world in an exciting fusion of creativity and talent. The London Game Jam is sponsored by London Metropolitan University, Gamelab London and Accelerator.

It starts at 5:00pm Friday 30 January 2009 and finishes at 5:00pm on Sunday 1 February 2009 (all times local). All participants in the Global Game Jam will be constrained by the same rules and limitations, with each time zone having one distinct constraint.

If you are a developer, a student, a programmer, a designer, a thinker, an artist or a musician then come and join in the jam! You will meet people and form a team when you arrive. All you need to do is register online at: http://www.thinkmakeplay.co.uk/gamejam
Bring your own laptop and software – wireless Internet and refreshments will be available on site.
