Corsair Twin2X 2048-8888C4DF DDR2 Ram Kit
RB Mods :: Saturday, February 03, 2007
The time has come to start switching to DDR2 ram. The timings are lower than ever and the buss speeds higher. On top of this the prices on DDR2 has gone down alot lately compared to what it was 6 months ago. Maybe Corsair has something new and fast we thought and got in touch with them. Turns out they did, and we got a sample of their Twin2x 8888 ram kits that we will be testing during this review. Corsair is well known for their fast performing and stable ram kits which have made them to be on top of the market when it comes to performance ram so it will be very interesting to see how this kit will perform.

Coolermaster X Craft External Hard Drive Enclosure Review
Madshrimps :: Saturday, February 03, 2007
“The X Craft is Coolermaster’s first external hard drive enclosure, their design team has come up with a sleek device that allows you to hook it up by USB 2.0, Firewire or eSATA. We take a closer look.”

ASUS X1950XTX Crossfire 512 MB DDR4
Bjorn 3d :: Saturday, February 03, 2007
The battle between NVIDIA and ATI to have the fastest available card is constantly raging. A few months ATI has the upper hand until NVIDIA releases their next GPU and so on. Right now at the time of writing the speed crown falls in the NVIDIA corner with their 8800-series of GPU’s. ATI has to settle for second price with their X1950XTX GPU.

While the X1950XT might no longer be the fastest GPU on the market it still is a fast GPU and with a price that won’t require you to sell your kidneys to be able to afford it (well, maybe one of them). Today we are testing the ASUS X1950XTX Crossfire 512 MB DDR4, the flagship in ASUS ATI-lineup.

ASUS Commando
T-break :: Saturday, February 03, 2007
One of the interesting things on the RoG series of boards is the ASUS LCD poster- ASUS basically places an LCD screen on the back panel that tells you of any problem with the setup. Think of it as an evolution to diagnostic LEDs found on other boards- instead of providing you a code that you need to look up, you\\\\\\\’re provided with the error message. Its a good idea, however, the placement on the back panel is less than ideal.

ASUS “Republic of Gamers” Commando – P965 to the limits
Tweak Town :: Saturday, February 03, 2007
“We have seen that with the right combination of overclocking options and motherboard features that the P965 chipset is a power house. ASUS has already done pretty well with the P5B-E Plus we looked at last time; however, this was just a patch board for the Commando to arrive.

Commando is the third board to come out in the “Republic of Gamers” series of boards, joining the Striker Extreme and the Crosshair boards. Based on the Intel P965 chipset it looks to have the goods, but how does it stack up and is it really worth the high price tag of over $300 USD?”

Akasa EVO 120 AK-920 Low Noise Heatsink Review
Frosty Tech :: Saturday, February 03, 2007
“This is the second revision of the Akasa EVO 120 (AK-120) heatsink, the first model produced under this name utilized thinner diameter heatpipes and a slim copper base. The new, 2007 model Akasa EVO 120 improves on these shortcomings with a stocky copper base, and three chunky 8mm diameter heatpipes. The changes have been well worth it, allowing the Akasa EVO 120 to handle high heat loads from Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad and AMD Athlon64 processors with quiet ease.”

A-DATA Vitesta 800 Memory Review
Ninjalane :: Saturday, February 03, 2007
“In this review we will be looking at a pair of Vitesta 800 DDR2 memory modules. These modules are part of the A-DATA Extreme Edition line and bear the Vitesta name as a result. These are 800Mhz modules and feature a CAS 5 speed rating. A-DATA has since revamped their Vitesta memory line to feature higher speed and lower latency modules”

abit NF-M2 nView AM2 m-ATX Motherboard
bjorn 3d :: Saturday, February 03, 2007
It seems as though many manufacturers, possibly acting out of market uncertainty, have jumped onboard the HTPS bandwagon with a product entry of their own. Some have been well suited for the Home Theater environment, while others have managed to make themselves appear out of place in any environment. It seems a relief then that some of the biggest names in the industy decided to jump in with their own ideas. One of the largest names in the business has offered the public a very suitable solution for HTPC enthusiasts: abit Computer Corporation.

2the Max GPX 750 Watt Power Supply
modders Inc. :: Saturday, February 03, 2007
The power supply market has been growing at a considerable rate lately. Several units are being released boasting anywhere from 600w – 2kw of power. The demand of high end computers is pushing manufactures to squeeze every bit of power out of a PSU they can. Today we are going to take a look at one of 2the Max’s power supplies called the GPX750.

Linux 2.6.20-rc6 Kernel Performance
Phoronix :: Saturday, February 03, 2007
“On top of our hardware reviews and comparisons at Phoronix we also cover and compare the latest ATI and NVIDIA drivers along with some of the other popular software packages; however, we have decided to feature Linux kernel performance comparisons with each major release. We will be covering some of the major highlights with each release as well as comparing its performance in a variety of tests against recent kernels. The intent of these articles will be to provide users with a better understanding for some of the prominent changes as well as to see how the performance is affected in some of our commonly used benchmarks. Without further ado, we present our kernel comparison for the Linux 2.6.20-rc6 kernel!”

Thermaltake LANBOX Case Review
Virtual Hideout :: Saturday, February 03, 2007
“The Thermaltake LANBOX is a sleek, lightweight option for the way we haul computer systems to and from LAN’s. The overall weight with installed hardware was less than 25lbs, which is light compared to some cases that weigh that much without anything installed. The small size doesn’t mean small components. The LANBOX can handle the high end graphics and CPU’s….”

G.Skill 2x1GB F2-6400CL4D-2GBHK DDR2 Memory Kit Review
Virtual Hideout :: Saturday, February 03, 2007
“For those who don’t feel the need to overclock, as well as for those who are looking for RAM that is highly overclockable, these tests are vital. In this case, the H sort of lives up to its Hi-Performance title, as I was able to get 1012MHz at 2.3v and this was stable while running Prime95 x2”

CoolIT Systems Eliminator Cooling System Review
Virtual Hideout :: Saturday, February 03, 2007
“The Eliminator is an excellent liquid cooling system for any type of user, experienced or not. Thanks to the simplified mounting process, manual, and hardware, installation is very simple and easy with the detailed directions and revisions.”

SilverStone CFP51 Aluminum 5.25″ to 3.5″ Bay Converter
3dgameman :: Saturday, February 03, 2007
“SilverStone CFP51 Aluminum 5.25″ to 3.5″ Bay Converter lets just about anyone add additional hard drives in their case. This is great news, since many mid-tower cases only have 3 or 4 internal hard drive bays. I really like the fact that SilverStone didn’t make this an exclusive product for Silverstone Cases only. It’s another sleek looking creation in their long list of quality products…”

USB Mini Lava Lamp from USBGeek
USB Geeks :: Friday, February 02, 2007
” Remember the 60’s and 70’s? I do, at least the 70’s anyway, but Lava Lamps were the rage back then, they’ve sort of made a comeback, but aren’t quite as popular as they once were. I used to have a full sized Lava Lamp, from the 70’s, although I’m not quite sure where it went, I’ll have to look for it sometime, but in the meantime USBGeek has sent me the USB Mini Lava Lamp for review to remind me of my errant youth. The USB Mini Lava Lamp is obviously powered by your USB port, it’s one of those cool little gadgets that have no real use except to take up space and maybe bring back memories for those of use that can remember back that far… Anyway, read on to check out this great little ‘gadget’ from USBGeek… ”

Tagan TurboJet TG1100-U95 1100W PSU
Viper Lair :: Friday, February 02, 2007
“Surely at some point there has to be stopping point, exactly how much power does a home computer user, or even an extreme PC enthusiast really need? If the answer is more power then the TurboJet TG1100-U95 is the solution . This thing is rock solid and oozes quality and performance from every angle. The TurboJet TG1100-U95 isn’t cheap at $400+ , but like in all things you get what you pay for.”

Super Talent 2 Gb PC2-6400 4-4-3-8 DDR2 Memory Review
OCIA :: Friday, February 02, 2007
“Using the 3.0x memory ratio, we find a little more headroom when slightly relaxing the timings to 4-5-5-8. Still using 2.3v, this brings the modules up to 501Mhz or DDR1002, impressive. The system is completely stable at these settings, able to pass four 32M Super Pi runs in a row.”

SunbeamTech Freezing Storm
Pro-CLockers :: Friday, February 02, 2007
Sunbeam has bee offer well made PC accessories for the budget minded computer enthusiast and modders for some time now, offering everything from computer chassis all the way down to case fans and just about everything in-between. Today we are going t be looking at one of their newer offerings in their computer chassis line, the Freezing Storm. The Freezing Storm is based on the same basic chassis design as Sunbeam Techs Silent Storm, but with a new front bezel design that allows much better air flow through the case, thus the name “Freezing Storm”.

Spire Fourier IV CPU Cooler
Pro CLockers :: Friday, February 02, 2007
Today, we are going to take a look at the newest cooler from Spire, the Fourier IV. The Fourier is an awesome looking cooler with a new design. With the cooling fan mounted underneath the copper fins air is designed to blow upwards and across the fins. The look of the Fourier IV is identical to that of the III but in copper. Will this design succeed in our testing?

SilverStone TJ09 Case Review
XYZ Computing :: Friday, February 02, 2007
When SilverStone releases an aluminum tower-sized case, it is a big deal. This company has released hit after hit in their TJ series, including such memorable cases as the TJ03 (Maximum PC’s Dream Machine Case 2004) and the TJ07 (Maximum PC’s Dream Machine Case 2005 and XYZ Computing current test case). Now they have added another case to this line: the TJ09. This product is intended to be the ultimate in ATX case design, the price-is-not-a-factor, top-of-the-line case that competes with the best from Lian Li, Thermaltake, and other companies known for their aluminum design. (In case you were wondering, the TJ08 was an aluminum Micro-ATX tower. It is no slouch, but does not fall in the same category as all the other TJ cases).

Rosewill RCX-Z2-EX CPU Cooler Review
RB Mods :: Friday, February 02, 2007
We’ve seen a lot of intricate CPU coolers, from large air-cooled units to liquid coolers to peltiers. However, sometimes a computer doesn’t need a fancy cooling setup when a simpler yet effective solution might do. Rosewill, makers of a wide range of computer peripherals, offers a CPU cooler, the RCX-Z2-EX, which comes in a small package but promises respectable cooling performance nonetheless. Will good things come in small packages? That is the question we’re going to answer in this review.

Quick Look – Lightscribe Anyone?
Hardware Logic :: Friday, February 02, 2007
“Lightscribe is a labeling technology that has been around for a little over 2 years now. Basically, a specially golden coated disk is put into a special drive where the write laser etches a monochrome label onto the coating the optical media (that would be DVD’s and CD’s). The end result is a professional looking (and feeling) label you would expect from a production silk screening processes.”

Surfing By Proxy
PC Mech :: Friday, February 02, 2007
Proxy servers, commonly called proxies, offer a whole different approach towards protection of privacy. They act as relays between your computer and the locations on the Internet that you visit. When you point your browser at a web site through a proxy server, your browser does not contact the web site directly. Instead, it sends the request to the proxy server to fetch that web page. The proxy server, in turn, sends the request to the web site, fetches the web page, and sends it over to your browser. As far as the web site’s records go, you never visited the site.

Desktop Search Head-to-Head: Windows Desktop Search vs. X1 Enterprise Client
PC Mech :: Friday, February 02, 2007
Ever feel like you can not find that file you were working on yesterday? Or you misplaced the family vacation photos on the computer? Well this article will not be about organization, which is important in its own right. Instead, for today’s Freeware Frenzy, I’ll be pitting two desktop search programs against each other to see which emerges as the best. So sit back and read “Desktop Search Head to Head: Windows Desktop Search vs. X1 Enterprise Client.”

Sapphire X1650 Pro Ultimate Edition PCIe Video Card
PC Apex :: Friday, February 02, 2007
We have a new review up on a silent and budget-friendly card from Sapphire. The X1650 Pro Ultimate Edition is a completely fan-less video card so noise won’t be an issue; but how does it perform? Here is a snip from the review:

“I don’t know who Sapphire worked with to develop their heatpipe design, but I am impressed with the construction. The tubes are 8mm which will allow a lot of movement of fluid and vapor which means more efficient cooling. The bends on the tubing are a little rough, but not enough to affect it’s ability. If you look closely at the picture of the side of the card that has the DVI connectors you will notice two rubber pads on the fins. These keep the metal from meeting with circuitry, which is a very good thing.”

NZXT Zero review
Driver Heaven :: Friday, February 02, 2007
“NZXT is most probably well known to our readers, although the company was established only 2 years ago. Every single case they have released since then became quickly popular because of their distinctive appearance and high quality. NZXT cases can be quite distinctive like the Nemesis or exceptionally elegant, like the Lexa. The Zero is marketed as the ‘perfect cooling solution’ by NZXT and is a simple but attractive case with a total of 8 fans pre-installed inside it with 7 of those fans being 120mm fans!”

NZXT Zero Full Tower Aluminum Chassis Review
Big Bruin :: Friday, February 02, 2007
There is plenty of room for all of your components, and working inside in the NZXT Zero is quite easy given the space and variety of tool-less features. Once you have all of your components installed there is still a good deal of room which is nice since it makes it more visually appealing and will help the airflow keep the system cool.

In Win Alpha 360 mATX Case Review
Big Bruin :: Friday, February 02, 2007
The styling of the In Win Alpha 360 mATX Case is definitely unique and is one of its best features. It looks like no other case I have used, and the aesthetics don’t get in the way of an easy installation and convenient operation. It provides many well designed tool-less features, more drive space than many other mATX cases, and decent cooling despite just having one case fan. Overall it has made quite a positive impression on me.

How To Increase Your Internet Speed on Windows XP
Hardware Secrets :: Friday, February 02, 2007

In this short tutorial we will teach you how to fix this and improve your Internet speed.”
