Boynq Haspel 4-port USB Hub Review

USB hubs are important for laptop-toters and PC nerds alike. It seems like even if we have four USB ports on our machine and perhaps two extra on the monitor, there is never enough room for all of our gadgets, printers, mp3 players, cameras, and flash drivers to plug in. So if you have to pick up a USB hub, what should you get for an inexpensive price? Boynq’s 4-port USB hub looks like a good choice…

The design is sleek looking. I have the guy edition, so the face is silver with a black wire and back. The girly edition is white on white. The face has 4 USB ports shaped circularly around the face. This design works well so that your cords don’t all run into each other. On the face is a wee knob that turns the entire face which is used to retract the cord. I’m not sure what the function of the tiny handle and feet are, considering they are too small to grasp or support the hub. If it’s just for looks, the Haspel begins to look like an old fashion radio.

Unfortunately the Haspel curves on the back, so it doesn’t lay flat. If you are just plugging in small flash drives or other cables that lead away from the Haspel, it’s fine. I plugged in the Boynq D’Light USB Lamp and it promptly fell over. Since many gadgets are small, I don’t imagine many buyers having this problem. I was annoyed that it wouldn’t stay upright though.

The retractable cord is helpful, but a pain in the butt. If you have large fingers, you will find grasping the tiny knob very difficult, and turning it to be impossible. Again, this is where the weapon uses of the Haspel come in handy; you can hold the USB jack and throw the Haspel at someone without having to retrieve your weapon afterwards. Almost like a sick yoyo.

No complaints about the USB speed. With three gadgets and a printer plugged in, each worked great. My iPod received files just as quickly, and big PDF files from my flash drive were uploaded immediately.

Small enough to fit in a side compartment in a laptop case; the Boynq Haspel USB hub will make a great addition to any nerd’s stocking loot. With holiday specials listing the Haspel at under ten bucks, this hub is a great deal.
