I will be starting by painting the top, front bezel, side panels, power supply, and expansion slot covers blue. Painting with the color is basically the same as painting with the primer. You will want to go slow and do multiple coats letting each one dry for about 10 minutes. I just took pictures of the blue basically done, it’s hard to tell because I was outside and my digital camera didn’t get great detail. I also did not get a picture of the power supply for some reason. The color of the blue is much darker than it appears in the photo which is due to my camera lightening the look.
I then did the inside of my case, the drive covers, Compunurse, grill, and buttons black. If you are going to be painting a Compunurse put a piece of tape over the LCD part of it so you don’t spray the display. Again the procedure is the same, multiple light and thin coats. Here is a picture of the first coat of the inside of my case done I still need to do a few more cots before I let it cure..
When doing the drives and buttons do thinner coats than you do on all the large surfaces. When doing the small items the black will end up being thicker because they are smaller. The picture below of everything is basically done, I have done a few coats on each and they are ready for curing.
Below is a picture of the inside of the case and all of the small things finsished and ready to cure. Everything looks really cool so far and I am quite satisfied so far.
After you have everything painted with a good coat of paint you will want to let it cure for 24 hours like you did with the primer. After the paint has dried overnight you will need to wet sand once again. I suggest using 1000 grit sand paper being sure not sand too hard, remember your not trying to remove the paint just smooth it. Let the water dry off and then you will want to do another coat of your main colors. Use the same technique as before doing multiple thin coats. When you are done with the 2nd main coat of your main color you will need to let it cure for 24 hours again.
Now that your case is all painted up and has had 2 or more coats and has had a chance to cure for 24 hours it’s time to start the clear coating. Before you start spraying away you are going to want to wet sand again, this time use the 1500 grit and sand lightly. When you are finished wet sanding let all the water dry off and you are now ready to start clear coating.
Clear coating requires the same technique as the primer and colors, do multiple light coats. When you are finished clear coating you will want to let it cure for 24 hours once again. After it has cured for 24 hours you will want to use the 2000 grit sand paper and wet sand again. When the case has dried I would do another coat of clear coat.
Depending on how glossy you want your case to be will determine how many coats of clear coat you will do. I did not want my case to have a finish which was reflective so I did not do many coats of clear coating. Let it cure like before for 24 hours, when 24 hours have passed you are ready to start putting everything back together and see how your hard work and time have paid off.
