If the reason you’re shying away from a 5.1 system is budget, then look at some of the Logitech or Creative 5.1 systems. They can be cheaper than the Klipsch and have more than enough umph for a small room.
If you’re an audiophile, then go for the Klipsch… but if you were an audiophile then you wouldn’t be using the motherboard’s onboard audio.
The Logitech Z-5300 speakers I have (http://www.ocmodshop.com/ocmodshop.aspx?a=978) sound great for movies and gaming and are rather inexpensive. The only problem is: no wireless remote.
