Otterbox also makes an Armor case for the second and third generation nanos, as well as a case for the skinnier iPod video. The case that I tested was designed specifically for the iPod Classic.
Let me clarify though, as there may be some confusion about what iPod “Classic” is really referring to. To me, iPod Classic is the first iPod ever made. The big, bulky, small-screened, thick, non-video iPod. Now, iPod “Classic” refers to the video iPod with the 80 and 160GB hard drives.
If you have not upgraded iPods yet, your old iPod will not be compatible with any of Otterbox’s products. As a side note: I bought my video iPod when it was only available with a 30 or 60GB hard drive. My video iPod is the 30GB version, and fit perfectly in this case designed for later generation iPods.
The Armor case comes with a belt clip, but even then it is gigantic. Although the clip attaches the case securely to a belt, it still makes your iPod look the size of a lame early 90’s cell phone. However, as they always say, “form follows function”, and the Armor case does exactly what it is supposed to do. It is a solidly built case, protecting your iPod from dirt, scratches, and bumps on even the hardest surfaces. Should it fall into a puddle or shallow pond, you are also protected.
As long as your iPod doesn’t splash into a lake or swimming pool deeper than three feet, you should be okay. For fear of losing my case, I didn’t test it deeper than three feet, but the case was free of water after being submerged in both a deep puddle and the bathtub.
