Most hard drives these days get very hot, most of the time when you touch them they almost burn. There are many different kinds of coolers on the market, this is one of the more simpler and cheaper ones, simple and cheap don’t always mean poor performance though, I think you will be surprised.

You get the hard drive cooler and 4 screws to mount it to your hard drive; it has a 4-pin Molex connector.
You will need a philips head screwdriver, your hard drive, the cooler, and the 4 screws.
Take the hard drive cooler and place it on the bottom of the drive, align the 4 holes on your hard drive with the notches in the hard drive cooler.
Go ahead and screw the 4 screws in, make sure they are snug so the cooler doesn’t vibrate against the drive, however don’t tighten them so much that you strip the holes. After you have all 4 screwed in go ahead and put the drive back in your computer.
Lets see how this cooler performs, I went ahead and attached my trusty thermal probe to the bottom of the hard drive in the middle of the PCB.
I let the hard drive idle for 30 minutes for each time; I tested it without the hard drive cooler and with it. The ambient temperature while I was testing 25 degrees Celsius.
As you can see from the graph above the hard drive cooler made a huge difference an astounding 16.6 degree drop in temperature with it attached and running.
Conclusion
Because hard drives now a days are so hot its a good idea to cool your hard drive to prevent early breakdown and to keep it running smooth. If you are looking for a cheap, and simple hard drive cooler that will do a good job this might be the one for you. For $8 you cant go wrong, it’s simple to install and it does a great job keeping our drive cool, after I installed this and touched it was no longer hot.
