ASUS internal clashes could create a new brand?
Tweak Town :: Thursday, January 29, 2009
“By an anonymous source, we were handed a Taiwan-based magazine called “Business Today” (like Taiwan’s version of the Economist) and in this week’s issue, there is a big story published regarding the internal power struggle battles between Johnny Shih, who is the chairman of Asustek and Tung Tsu Hsien who is the new boss of Pegatron, which is the breakaway OEM division of Asustek.
We managed to get the magazine article translated, since the news is not online at all (even in Taiwan). In the lengthy article, it outlines how the now chairman of Pegatron, Tung Tsu Hsien, was forced out of the ASUS board and into his new position handling OEM business against the likes of Foxconn and others.
While only touching on the issue very lightly, the article writer claims that Tung Tsu Hsien has a strong interest in brand business, especially in the growing China market. It is said that Tung Tsu Hsien takes care of his staff very well and won the hearts of many influential and talented staff – many staff from the R&D and industrial design team at ASUS decided to follow Tung Tsu Hsien to Pegatron.”

First Look: Energizer Zinc Air Prismatic Battery
Legit Reviews :: Thursday, January 29, 2009
“The Zinc Air system requires oxygen from the air as “fuel” to operate. The air access holes under the tape have been included to support the maximum rate capability of the battery. When the battery tab is removed, the battery is “fully open”. The rate of oxygen flow required is proportional to the discharge rate. Therefore, limiting the amount of air access to a zinc air battery can increase the useful life of the battery from 1 – 3 months with no air management to 1 – 2 years using air management. The Energizer PP355 battery has an air requirement of 1.3 cc air/min @ 25 mA, so there is a minimum amount needed for the battery to operate. By using air as fuel it will leave design companies with the ability to custom tailor a battery to their device, which is very innovative…”

What makes this pad special is the fact that it appears to be a cloth mousepad, but yet has the slickness and qualities of a plastic surface through a process of blending plastic to the cloth on a molecular level to create a very good mousing surface. The Hybrid has the qualities of a cloth pad in that it can be rolled and taken with you, and, and mentioned, the qualities of a plastic pad as well, truly a hybrid pad that gives the user the best of both worlds. So read on to learn more about the XTracPads Hybrid mousing surface…

Building an AMD HTPC – Capable of Blu-ray HD Audio Playback
Tweak Town :: Thursday, January 22, 2009
“It has been quite a while since I last went under the hood of my current Home Theater PC (HTPC), but judging by the gradual degrading performance that I was beginning to see when watching the latest movies, it was pretty clear that an upgrade was in order.
With way too much Intel chip action in this office, we decided it was time to get some AMD silicon in play around here. So, we contacted our friends at AMD to see if they would hook us up with a processor to use in our new HTPC build. They obliged rather nicely with not only one, but four of their latest processors to try out – ranging from dual-core all the way up to quad-core – we’ll pick one today based on a range of tests.”
The History of Social Networking
Digital Trends :: Thursday, January 22, 2009
“Long before it became the commercialized mass information and entertainment juggernaut it is today, long before it was accessible to the general public, and certainly many years before Al Gore claimed he “took the initiative in creating” it, the Internet – and its predecessors – were a focal point for social interactivity. Granted, computer networking was initially envisioned in the heyday of The Beatles as a military-centric command and control scheme. But as it expanded beyond just a privileged few hubs and nodes, so too did the idea that connected computers might also make a great forum for discussing mutual topics of interest, and perhaps even meeting or renewing acquaintances with other humans. In the 1970s, that process began in earnest.”
Interview with Robert Krakoff – Co-founder & President of Razer
Driver Heaven :: Thursday, January 22, 2009
This is a pretty complex question and therefore my reply is somewhat truncated.
Science has already made a rudimentary game that can read minds (or more accurately, measure concentration), through an implant that gives basic functionality of operating a computer to a quadriplegic, and another implant that helps a paraplegic to walk.
Were mapping the entire brain out, right down to the individual neurons, in an attempt to emulate intelligence from its source. This will be an important step forward in learning how the brain functions. Once we can harness the full power of reading minds then we will be able to tap into the brain directly, and create a two-way stream.

CES 2009
Bjorn 3d :: Tuesday, January 20, 2009
This year I attended the CES show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Now, unfortunately, with confusion and really not knowing what to do and how to go about it, it kept me from actually visiting the booths inside the Las Vegas Convention Center itself. This was my very first CES so, as always, there’s bound to be some problems. But I did get a chance to meet up with some companies that had displays throughout the city of Las Vegas, Nevada. These companies felt it was a better idea to set up their displays at their hotel rooms so they could get a better one on one with reviewers, editors, and other related sites/businesses in the computer industry. I met with five companies on a one on one interview.

So I have and have gotten quite a few games for the PC that are compatible with the Xbox controllers, sure I could use an aftermarket controller but I’ve tried them and they don’t seem to be truly compatible with the games, so I decided to grab something that might help me with this problem. Seeing as I have an Xbox and the controllers I figured why not get the Wireless receiver that will let me use my Xbox controllers with my PC games. Today I’ve got a short review about a little product that I picked up recently, it’s the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows and it does exactly as it’s supposed to do, it allows me to use my Xbox 360 Wireless controllers with my Windows PC games. It’s a great little product that I can easily recommend anyone getting if they wish to use their own Xbox controllers with Windows…

Most every PC system has fans in it too keep them cool and we’ve learned that not all fans are created equal, they might look good but they don’t perform well and of course it can go the opposite way as well. CES 2009: Sands Expo
Think Computers :: Friday, January 16, 2009
“I spend an afternoon at the Sands this year, something which I was unable to do last year. The Sands exhibitors’ are comprised of primarily foreign exhibitors. Many are Taiwanese; in fact, there’s an entire section of the floor dedicated to Taiwanese companies. There are a few from China, a few from Japan, a few from Canada, and a few from Europe. I visited the boothes of CoolIT, Lian Li, QNAP, Seventeam, Super Talent, and Zotac.”

CES 2009 Spotlight – Checking Out the Korean Titans: LG and Samsung
Thermaltake Spedo Advance Package
APH Networks :: Friday, January 16, 2009
Things have changed quite a lot over one year. With the dawn of a new year, it will bring about a refreshed array of new products that the world will soon see. In the past year, we have witnessed the introduction of new products that were faster and more efficient than ever before. Ranging from the initial launch of new unibody Apple MacBooks, to the exciting beta version of Windows 7, everything on the face of the earth seems to be getting bigger and faster (We’re not saying it’s a good thing or bad thing — you decide). There’s $1000 12-inch “netbooks”, 17 inch laptops with SLI graphics that gets half an hour of battery life, but then there’s also laptops on the latest Intel mobile platform that provides switchable graphics — you get the idea. The only thing that is almost universally agreeable to have gotten worse this year is the economy, with hope that the dawn of a new year will bring back some much needed renewal of various markets. Either way, consumers are starting to spend their money more wisely these days, but those who have cash on their hands are definitely benefiting from reduced-price items. Be it buying cars or purchasing new computer components, it’s always important to consider the merits and the affordability of a product before buying such. On a lighter note, since we mentioned cars already — how about a ‘sports car inspired’ full tower case? Today, we will be taking a look at the Thermaltake Spedo Advance Package chassis. This case is designed not only to be like a fast car, but also contains elements of the looks of one. But how does it actually stack up in real life? We will answer this very question in our review today.

Hardware Logic :: Thursday, January 15, 2009
“After a long night of partying with OCZ at their VIP suite, it was tough getting up so early for CES Day 2. But don’t worry, we got ourselves out of bed to provide another day of detailed coverage. Today, we ventured into the South Hall for a couple of meetings and then hit the strip to catch up with several major players in the computer industry. Read on as we talk to BFG Tech, Silverstone, Crucial, Antec, and Razer about their new and up coming products for 2009.”

Hardware Logic :: Wednesday, January 14, 2009
“HardwareLogic starts the new year with coverage from Las Vegas, Nevada, where CES 2009 is being held. For those unfamiliar with this event, the International CES event is produced by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) to promote growth in the consumer technology industry. The CEA consists of more than 2,200 corporations involved in the design, development, manufacturing, distribution, and integration of consumer electronics. The show runs from Thursday, January 8 to Sunday, January 11, 2009 at the Las Vegas Convention Center and has been going strong since June 1967, when the first CES took place in New York City.”
CES 2009 Highlights and Photo-Report
Hot Hardware :: Tuesday, January 13, 2009
On our yearly jaunts to the Las Vegas to attend the Consumer Electronics Show, we meet with numerous companies and see a myriad of products–some we can, and some we can’t talk about–in what is always an absolute whirlwind of a trip. This year was no exception. Although the show itself wasn’t quite as big as it has been in previous years in terms of attendance, it was nevertheless loaded with cool products and technology that filled not only the Las Vegas Convention center, but multiple surrounding venues, hotels, and suites all along the strip. Come on by the site and take a look…
CES 2009 Show Floor Coverage
The Tech Zone :: Monday, January 12, 2009
“In a way, the downsized CES makes things a bit easier. It really is impossible to check all the 30 different product categories that CES has on displayed – you have to pick and choose what you’re interested in and plan from there. With camera in hand we hit the show floor to bring you some of the highlights of CES 2009.”
CES 2009 Coverage Day 4
Overclockers Club :: Monday, January 12, 2009
“So now we come to a long awaited part of CES. Everyone loves the infamous Booth Babes that are touring around the convention floors sporting off all the new products. This year there were not a lot of booth babes as there have been in previous years, however the quality makes up for the quantity. Sit back and enjoy, courtesy of your OCC 2009 CES Team.”
2009 AVN Expo Booth Babes
Tweak Town :: Monday, January 12, 2009
“This year’s CES was a bomb on several fronts. When the economy went sour the first things that got cut were the fun little extras that used to add to the shows appeal; fun things like having seven parties to choose from every night of the week, lavish hand outs from vendors and of course booth babes.
Luckily for us, there is another convention going on just across the hall from a small portion of CES. This event is one that I have never been able to attend due to time constraints and vender meetings, but this year we were able to spend more time on the show floor and that gave us the chance we needed to finally see the 2009 AVN Adult Entertainment Expo.”
NVIDIA’s Ion Small Form-Factor PC Platform
Hot Hardware :: Monday, January 12, 2009
At the Consumer Electronics Show this past week, NVIDIA was demonstrating a new reference platform for an ultra small form-factor multimedia PC and we should underscore the word “ultra”. To say this new product concept is tiny would be an understatement. Consider if you will, an entire PC, capable of decoding and playing full 1080p HD video content, in a box that fits in the palm of your hand with a 3″ x 4″ motherboard.
We met with Drew Henry, NVIDIA’s General Manager of MCP products, at CES and he gave us a tour of Ion, as well as a demonstration of its capabilities. We’ve got NVIDIA’s Ion in today’s HotHardware Video Spotlight, so we’ll let Drew do the talkin’
CES 2009: The Booth Babes
Think Computers :: Monday, January 12, 2009

This year at CES we saw everything from mini laptops, all-in-one PC’s, and crazy 3D LCD displays. Let’s see if the models showing off the products this year can make you drool as much as the products! Without further ado I present the CES 2009 booth babe gallery!”

CES 2009: Lunch at Pieros

Thus, every year at the restaurant, which is within a mere few hundred feet of the Las Vegas Convention Center, several companies show off their new technologies. Many of the companies which display are start-ups or lesser known companies, but a few are extremely well-known.”

Think Computers :: Sunday, January 11, 2009
“I’m sure when most of you think of BFG you think of video cards. Being one of the biggest video card suppliers that is expected. Since there are no big video card announcements this year at CES BFG was not showing much, but what they were showing was very interesting. They are moving into the full custom PC market with their Phobos high performance system. It is unlike many other custom systems you can currently purchase so let’s take a look…”

One of their kits, the XP3-16000 Triple Channel DDR3 kit was running in a system displaying an impressive overclock. The kit, which is comprised of 3 x 1GB modules, is rated for 2000MHz with 9-9-9-24 timings at a voltage of 1.65v. That is quite an impressive speed and with tighter timings than the JEDEC specification of 9-10-10-25. In addition the the XP3-16000 Triple Channel set, Mushkin also has a power supply and two other DDR3 Triple Channel sets, the XP3-15000 at 9-9-9-24 and an HP Series DDR3 Triple Channel kit.”
CES 2009: Corsair and MSI
Legit Reviews :: Saturday, January 10, 2009
“At the Corsair Memory hotel suite we got our first look at the highly anticipated thermoelectric (TEC) TEC cooled Corsair DOMINATOR GT DDR3 memory modules. Thermoelectric cooling uses the Peltier effect to create a heat flux between the junction of two different types of materials. One side of the Peltier cooler acts as a cold plate as the heat is transfered to the other side, which is known as the hot plate. All this is done by the flow of electrical current and it has worked very well for over a hundred years as the technology was discovered in 1834…”
CES 2009: Digital Experience

Every year at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the organizers put together a preview event called CES Unveiled. Every technology starts with a motivation, and throughout the past year Benchmark Reviews has watched the computer hardware industry follow trends that seem all too familiar of yesteryear. In this article by Executive Editor Olin Coles, the past 2008 calendar year is summarized for it’s accomplishments, but the real focus is on the coming year ahead. Will 2009 be the year that component computer hardware becomes important again, or will it be relegated to a niche hobby for enthusiast?
