Screen Digest Investigates Long-Term Console Performance
Xbox-Scene :: Tuesday, June 19, 2007
From gamasutra.com (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=14384 ):
In a newly published report, Nick Parker of UK-based analyst group Screen Digest takes an in-depth look at the long term prospects of all three major consoles, wondering if the Xbox 360 has hit a wall, stronger investments in the Wii might “reduce the pot to invest in the other two platforms,” and when hardware-driving exclusives might hit the PS3. For Xbox 360, European hardware sales seem to have hit a wall. The target market is still too focused on adult males and the brand does not enjoy the same cachet in non-Anglo Saxon markets as it does in the US and, to a lesser extent, the UK. The FPS / shooter genre is well served on the Xbox 360 with numerous high quality titles, so satisfying the adult male demographic is not a concern, but failing to break out of a small number of genres and thereby appealing to groups outside of hardcore gamers is. A scratching of heads has started over questions concerning the long term viability of the platform in some territories. With the UK underpinning European performance and without year on year sales improving across the rest of the region, the platform could be in jeopardy on a global basis. Despite this, some of the most eagerly awaited titles for Q4 cited by consumers are on the 360 (eg, Halo 3, Bioshock). Team Fortress 2 Won’t Feature PC-Xbox 360 Interplay
Xbox-Scene :: Tuesday, June 19, 2007
From teamxbox.com (http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/13739/Team-Fortress-2-Wont-Feature-PCXbox-360-Interplay/ ):
A couple of months ago, we reported that cross-platform multiplayer interaction for Team Fortress 2 was achieved at Valve’s offices and the developer confirmed that interplay between the PC and Xbox 360 version of the game was “technically done.” In Valve’s offices, team members regularly play cross-platform multiplayer games, but the studio’s Doug Lombardi noted emphatically that such functionality will not appear in the final versions. He explained that it introduces more problems than it is worth, and if Valve ever decides to go that route it would be in a game designed for it from the start. Microsoft sues Immersion for contract breach
Xbox-Scene :: Tuesday, June 19, 2007
From gamespot.com (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6172674.html ):
Microsoft said on Monday that it has filed suit against Immersion, a company whose technology adds tactile feedback to joysticks and other controllers. Immersion had originally sued Microsoft, along with Sony, back in 2002, but the two companies reached a settlement in 2003. Under that deal Microsoft agreed to pay Immersion $26 million for licensing rights and for a stake in the company. However, Microsoft said Monday that Immersion has not lived up to other terms of that deal, including a provision that requires Immersion to pay Microsoft “based on certain business and IP licensing arrangements.”
Full Story: gamespot.com (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6172674.html )

Xbox-Scene :: Monday, June 18, 2007
From gamesindustry.biz (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=25868 ):
Microsoft has begun promoting Halo 3 with a viral marketing campaign that promises to reveal more about the game’s universe and backstory. The campaign kicked off this weekend when groups from an organisation called The Society of the Ancients took to the streets of cities such as New York and London (http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1283/553308096_3eed813795.jpg?v=0 ) to hand out flyers with the message, “We are not alone.” The logo on their flyers and t-shirts matched the one used by a mysterious poster on the Halo forums (http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=11263399&postRepeater1-p=1 ). It also appeared on a cryptic email (http://mtvgames.typepad.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/2007/06/15/weird_xbox_email_2.jpg ) sent out by Microsoft. A Society of the Ancients website (http://www.societyoftheancients.com/default.htm ) has been set up, complete with countdown clock (http://206.16.223.65/ ). Sing along to the Ring of Fire Song Parody
Xbox-Scene :: Monday, June 18, 2007
From xbox360fanboy.com (http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/06/17/sing-along-to-the-ring-of-fire-song-parody/ ):
The Sarcastic Gamer Jeromy “Doc” Adams knows the pain some have had to go through with their 360’s red ring of death experiences and, like any creative genius, decided to use the pain as inspiration for his latest song parody. Jeromy recorded “The Ring of Fire (http://www.sarcasticgamer.com/2007/06/ring-of-fire.html )” which is quite an entertaining version of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire” with lyrics inspired by such 360 failures.
