Call Of Duty 4 (PS3 and Xbox 360)
Driver Heaven :: Sunday, November 18, 2007
When Medal of Honour games started losing breath a few years ago the first Call of Duty game came out of nowhere and made a small revolution within the genre. For the first time players were able to fight alongside hundreds of allied soldiers (remember the Russian campaign?) instead of playing the lone wolf behind enemy lines. But much like its spiritual predecessor the CoD games started losing momentum with the third instalment. Is Modern Warfare another step down on the road to mediocrity or did the jump to modern times give it the needed boost to return to greatness?

Tabula Rasa review
YouGamers :: Friday, November 16, 2007
“Tabula Rasa being a SciFi game had to try something new with the combat too. In a way the goal has been to somehow merge the twitch-based first person shooter gameplay with a MMO. Last one to try that was Planetside, and it wasn’t a bad try. Tabula Rasa is much less like a first person shooter, and instead has taken the route of modifying the normal target-and-hit-various-attack-keys MMO combat. Initially the gameplay seems very much action-oriented: you aim at a Bane thug with your mouse, and left button fires your gun. Except that what actually happens is that you target the enemy and then hit an attack key – the rest is just smoke and mirrors.”

NBA 2K8 Xbox 360 Review
Tweak Town :: Thursday, November 15, 2007
TTGamer have today posted a review of NBA 2K8 for the Xbox 360. With EA stepping it up with their NBA Live series, 2KSports needed to assert their position at the top of the NBA gaming world, and they have done just that with NBA 2K8.

Hellgate London PC Review
Gamepyre :: Thursday, November 15, 2007
Hellgate London has a very fun concept behind it and lots of content to keep players going, but I’m not sure if that’s going to be enough this time. Don’t get me wrong, this is a fun game, but it’s hard to play though the problems. Locking, lagging, crashing, all seem to be present even with the newest video drivers and OS patches in Windows Vista. I would highly recommend not having any programs running in the background that might draw focus to them, as that in and of itself leads to many crashes. This game isn’t a big fan of the alt+tab motion either!

The Blurring Line Between Video Games and Exercise
Futurelooks :: Thursday, November 15, 2007
The connection between exercise and video games is not a new one, per se, but it is one that has gathered a lot of steam in recent years. Here are five areas or trends where we have experienced the merging of video games and exercise.

Conflict: Denied Ops preview
YouGamers :: Thursday, November 15, 2007
“Hold the phone! Two? yes, that’s right: no more four or five man squads to manage; just you and your chum, and you’re free to easily switch between the two (which really makes it a case of you and you). The reason for this design choice was to move away from the complex squad tactics found in the likes of Rainbow Six games, where one would spend considerable time just getting ready for the mission, only for it to go pear-shaped two minutes in. Managing just two people also means that co-op multiplayer is available, for all platforms; this mode of gameplay is sorely missing from a lot of games, so Pivotal deserve some kudos for using it here.”

Race 07 PC Review
Gamepyre :: Thursday, November 15, 2007
Race 07 is not what it claims to be, but it is only $19.99 at any major video game retailer. Unfortunately because of its low cost I have a feeling that this game won’t go down in price in the next few months (and it should). Purchasing Race 07 is the same as purchasing the director’s cut of a movie you already have. If you’re an impulse buyer then this is a great game (despite the fact that they lied about having 300 cars in it).

How EA games pushed me to pirate Crysis
Crysis :: Thursday, November 15, 2007
Whereas Crysis is available in the US, Europe is left to wait with pricing increased by almost 100%, what better excuse does one need to pirate the game?

Analysing NVIDIA G8x Performance in Modern Games
IXBT :: Thursday, November 15, 2007
“This article was initially intended to continue our analysis of shader units and to show how their number affects NVIDIA G8x performance in modern games. We planned to change parameters of a G80-based graphics card to make it resemble the mid-end G84-based products. Unfortunately, our plans never got to the first base – G80’s hardware performance counters didn’t work with some shader units disabled. So we decided not to trash our test results and use them in a brief comparative analysis of performance and some other parameters of modern 3D games.”

Quake Wars Limited Collectors Edition
Gamepyre :: Wednesday, November 14, 2007
As the second multiplayer-only Quake game, Id Software’s Enemy Territory Quake Wars is a great choice. This product easily wins itself and Gold Medal award for being one of the best team-based shooters that I have played since the original Battlefield 1942. Quake Wars easily lives up to the standards set by its spiritual successor, Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, and moves beyond those standards set. This game is worth picking up, and any Quake fan won’t want to miss these bonus features in the Limited Edition

The Witcher (PC)
Driver Heaven :: Wednesday, November 14, 2007
When Gothic 3 hit the shelves earlier this year it was met with mixed reactions. Some (including Gaming Heaven) thought the game had a lot of potential and was enjoyable enough to ignore some of it’s rather glaring shortcomings . Others however werent as forgiving and gave the game developers a hard time. Unfortunately for the games developers soon bit the dust, so any real hopes Gothic 3 had of becoming what it was meant to be were snuffed out then and there. But just as RPG fans started losing hope for a more dark, brutal fantasy RPG … out of nowhere (well, not really the game has been on every RPG players list for a while now) came The Witcher with its dark, almost realistic approach at fantasy adventuring.

TimeShift (PC)
Driver Heaven :: Wednesday, November 14, 2007
Lets face it; this month could easily be considered the most competitive time to release an FPS on the PC. Games like Unreal Tournament 3, Gears of War, Crysis, and Call of Duty 4 were all set to come out, and amongst the pack remains one less known title. TimeShift, which has seen development changes and delays, finally decided to release itself amongst all the chaos. Even so, the game has a unique charm about it that you wont want to miss.

Gears for War for Windows review
YouGamers :: Tuesday, November 13, 2007
“The single-player campaign starts off just as it did on Emergence Day a year ago, with no back story or plot set-up but with plenty of attitude and action. The story – COG versus Locust Horde in the ultimate battle for supremacy! – remains just as stilted and contrived, but it’s enough to drive the action. The new chapters are welcome as well, and it’s very cool indeed to finally get a chance to come face-to-face with the Brumak. The extended story is less of a bonus and more of a necessary inclusion, as it was clear that the chase and eventual showdown with the Brumak was cut from the console version to make a 2006 holiday release date. Now, the story feels more complete, though the ending is just as unfulfilling as it was last year (though it does beg for a sequel).”

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Overview
Virtual Hideout :: Tuesday, November 13, 2007
“On November 6th, Call of Duty 4 hit the shelves and arrived by mail in droves. After reserving a copy at Best Buy (I thought it would be wise given the success of the Demo), I found that after picking up my copy that there were only 10 left reserved for others. That’s all they had left by the end of the day out of several hundred copies for console and PC alike. COD 4 naturally follows suit and takes place in Europe and the Middle East. This time around, all of the action is completely fictitious but follows along the lines of some popular movies such as Black Hawk Down.”
