GIGABYTE M57SLI-S4 Motherboard Review
MyPcMadness :: Friday, June 23, 2006
GIGABYTE has done an outstanding job in most respects with the M57SLI-S4 motherboard. Performance on the board was below that of the nForce 590 SLI board, but that is to be expected as the 590 is the enthusiast model and the 570 is the mid-range model. Feature-wise, the board has everything you would expect from a modern motherboard today and will perform well for most desktop applications. Overall a very satisfactory product for the mid level enthusiast or gamer.

The Tech Report :: Friday, June 23, 2006
While we were in Taiwan covering Computex, ECS whisked us away for a quick tour of its manufacturing facilities in China and showed us exactly how these motherboards are built. We saw it all, from traces being etched onto individual PCB layers, to the mounting of surface components like DIMM slots and capacitors, all the way through testing and retail packaging. Join us as we walk through ECS’s Golden Elite Technology campus and witness the birth of a motherboard.

Corsair TWINX2048-4400PRO 2GB Kit Review
PC Modding Malaysia :: Friday, June 23, 2006

Content: “After a battery of benchmarking and torture testing, it’s rather impossible for us not to claim the Corsair TWINX2048-4400PRO as the king of 2GB DDR memory kit. The modules have got great scores from all aspects including aesthetics, performance, stability and overclocking. Being the fastest retail 2GB DDR kit in the planet, we managed to squeeze another 5MHz from them which resulted in a stable operating memory frequency of 280MHz (DDR560) at 3-4-4-8-1T. Despite it was rated to run at 275MHz at 3-4-4-8-2T, we managed to run it at 3-4-4-8-1T and even 3-3-2-5-1T without any stability issues.”

Computex 2006 – It’s Party Time!
The Tech Zone :: Friday, June 23, 2006

Carnegie’s is an ex-pat bar and Wednesday night is the night to go to Carnegies – it’s lady’s night. How this works is really quite genius. Ladies get in free from 7pm to 9pm and the drinks are free as well. After 9PM, they let the guys into a room full of drunken girls. How cool is that?

We have managed to put our hands on a Windows version of Nvflash (Nvidia’s BIOS flashing utility). This utility can help make our lives a lot easier when BIOS flashing.”

iTunes’ Movie Downloads the ‘Tipping Point’ for Online Movie Distribution?
Designtechnica :: Friday, June 23, 2006
“Will iTunes do for online movies what it did for online music? Does Apple’s entry into this space represent a ‘tipping point’ for the entire segment, or is such an outcome even relevant to Apple? In other words, is this simply the next step in Apple’s larger strategy to establish a presence in living room?”

Sytrin Nextherm PSU460 Server Power Supply Review
Virtual-Hideout :: Sunday, June 18, 2006

Quote: “This was a pretty easy decision. I would definitely recommend this power supply to anyone who wants a very quiet power supply that can provide very stable power. Very minor complaints about the number of SATA connectors, and the weight of the unit are really getting mentioned only to be thorough.”

Thermalright Ultra-90 LGA775 Review
PC Modding Malaysia :: Sunday, June 18, 2006

Content: “Thermalright has definitely stepped up the game with the Ultra-90. The installation was a breeze and the build quality is getting better. We strongly recommend the Ultra-90 to anyone looking at purchasing a powerful CPU heatsink without having to worry about motherboard compatibility or installation issues. The Ultra-90 also performed decently while beating almost any heatsink we pitted against it, except for the SI-120. Overall, the Ultra-90 is a high-end CPU heatsink and it only costs about USD$40 / RM145.”

Computex 2006
The Tech Report :: Sunday, June 18, 2006
COMPUTEX IS A SPECTACLE like no other. An ocean away, in a land where most motherboards and graphics cards are born, it’s almost like being dropped into the belly of the beast. The show has a different vibe than most North American trade shows, too. While the Consumer Electronics Show, Intel Developer Forum, and E3 cater to the press, Computex is mostly an event for buyers. People go to do business, and while the media’s there too, we’re mostly just along for the ride.

But what a ride. After recovering from four jam-packed days of meetings, snooping, and booth browsing, we’ve collected our thoughts in a massive Computex report. Read on to see what Abit, Asus, Albatron, ATI, BFG Tech, Biostar, Corsair, DFI, ECS, Foxconn, Gigabyte, MSI, PowerColor, Shuttle, SiS, Thermaltake, Tyan, VIA, and Zalman had at the show.

Vbox Cat’s Eye DTA-150 HDTV Tuner
HTPCnews :: Sunday, June 18, 2006
” DTV is absolutely amazing the first time you lay eyes on it. In fact, it is shocking how much better it will look over standard definition broadcasts. Of course nothing in life is a cakewalk. Poor signal reception, driver problems and hardware compatibility can hamper the effort for broadcast HDTV nirvana. That, of course, always leads to a grumpy significant other. In our ever constant attempts to reach the perfect HTPC we will be testing the VBox “Cat’s Eye” DTA-150 to see if it measures up to our needs.”

AAC On Their PureXS Conroe Powered Gaming PC
Legit Reviews :: Sunday, June 18, 2006
“”LR — With Intel’s next generation processor coming out, Core 2 Duo, what are your thoughts on the gaming industry? Should we expecting a busy summer or should buyers wait for Vista to launch in 2007.

AAC — That is a hard question to answer. Conroe is going to be something special. Between it and AM2 there will be many new products available. If I was buying now I would definitely make sure the system I build is ready for Vista. But I am expecting this summer to be pretty busy once people see the new processor (Core 2 Duo).””

Add NCQ, huge storage capacity, 5-year warranty, and solid performance, and you have a drive well worth picking up.”

The question we answer in this review today is, “Is the abit AT8 32X the board to buy if you are staying with s939?”

Shuttle XPC SN27P2 SFF Socket AM2 Barebones Review
PCStats :: Sunday, June 18, 2006
“Shuttle’s latest Small Formfactor PC is its XPC SN27P2 which is based around nVIDIA’s nForce 570 Ultra chipset and supports 940-pin socket AM2 Athlon64 X2/FX and Sempron processors. There are a whopping four 240 pin DDR-2 DIMM slots, making this toaster capable of supporting up to 8GB of DDR2-800 RAM. If that wasn’t enough already, the BTX-style motherboard layout means you can install a PCI Express x16 videocard with a dual-slot heatsink! It’s unheard of! Overall the Shuttle XPC SN27P2 Small Formfactor barebones PC is a nice package – it looks great and is built with reducing an impact both in the space it occupies, and in the amount of noise it generates.”

When internal hard drive space in a computer case is full, or if quick access to hard drives is called for, this box will allow you to add up to three SATA hard drives in the space normally occupied by two 5.25″ optical drives. ”

Intel Core 2 E6600
t-break :: Sunday, June 18, 2006
The 2.4GHz is achieved by running at a 9x multiplier at 266MHz FSB. We initally thought that 4MB L2 cache would be shared between the two cores on this CPU but the motherboard BIOS reported 8MB as total L2 cache which means 4MB per core. As per our knowledge, the E6600 will somewhat be placed in the middle with the E6700 (2.67GHz) and X6800 (2.93GHz) above it and the E6400 (2.13GHz) and E6300 (1.83GHz) below it.
