For the out-of-the-box warrantied overclock, you will have to pay a slight price premium over stock speed 6600 GT’s, but if you want one of the highest performing 6600 GT’s available, then BFG has you covered with its 6600 GT OC. It’s a great card with cool looks and a mediocre bundle. As always, though, I have to emphasize BFG’s lifetime warranty and 24×7 tech support. Those two things are very big selling points to me and offer a lot of comfort you just can’t get from many other companies.
Obviously since the 6600 GT OC offers great performance by itself, it will also provide some of the best performance numbers (if not the best) in SLI mode when you set up a pair of them on your SLI motherboard. If performance and support are your top concerns, then look no further than BFG. The ‘OC’ line continues to offer top performance.

With all the talk about surround sound, 5.1 speaker systems and 7.1 speaker systems, it is sometimes easy to forget that in some cases a pair of good headphones is to be preferred or even a necessity. I, for instance, cannot turn up the volume of my 5.1 system too high since I don’t want to disturb the neighbors or my wife. At the same time, I want to be able to experience a good gaming session of World of Warcraft or Doom 3, and we all know that the sound is just as important as graphics.

Select journalists at the CeBIT trade fair in Germany were tittled at the tattle of eyewitness reports of Chris Hook, ATi Technologies’ EMEA PR Manager, seemingly out on a cruise… to recruit senior NVIDIA employees in to ATi. Apparently Chris’ efforts seemingly went unrewarded at that stage, but HEXUS has just learnt that ATi may have just recruited two key NVIDIA people.

Any geek, regardless of how into gaming he is, can appreciate the simple concept and logic behind NVIDIA’s SLI technology. If you want more gaming power, just add another video card. It doesn’t get any simpler than that, right? You of course have to have the right ingredients — SLI-compatible video cards and an SLI-capable motherboard. I know this is one geek who was excited to get his hands on an SLI motherboard and video cards, preferably 6800 GTs or Ultras of course, but I’m happy to review cards from the 6600 family, especially since the majority of gamers will be looking at this more affordable set of cards. I’m especially looking forward to seeing how a 6600 GT SLI setup compares to a single 6800 GT.

What is for sure is that 5.1 gaming is a major advancement to gaming and should be utilized as much as possible in the future. There are a few 6200 AGP boards on show at NVIDIA’s partners, here at CeBit in Halle 24. Inno3D have one up for example, but Point of View’s is a bit different, since it’s not NV44A, rather NV44 and BR2. With its molex feed for power, it’s more than just a basic cheap board for the masses, rather for the tweaker on a budget. It’s one of PoV’s first boards back from production and it’s more a qualification sample than one that’s currently in mass production, but they decided to take it to CeBit and they hinted it might clock a bit.
With 6200 AGP yet to break cover in any real way, the presence of partner boards at CeBit is an indication that they’re pretty close. That it’s not NV44A is something extra.

Acrylic windows, neon and strobe lights, Day-Glo colors, and vaguely alien shapes may be appealing for desktop PC cases, but you probably don’t want a large, showy case as part of your home theater setup, especially if you share your home with a significant other who has significantly more style than you. Additionally, home theater PC’s need to be quiet. Fan and disk noise are easy to overlook if you’re blasting MP3’s while blasting Ant Lions, but white noise isn’t welcome when you’re watching a movie, especially if it’s a quiet passage involving romance (I’m thinking of your significant other again). Straight video recording is equally as impressive. Processor usage is 4-5 times LESS than what is seen with the very similar Leadtek setup. The AOpen XC Cube with the better processor in the P4 3.0 still lags behind significantly and processor usage is 2-4 times higher than that with the Theater 550Pro. For those with slower processors lying around that can be recruited for HTPC or PVR duties, be sure to pair it with a card that does hardware MPEG2 encoding like the Theater 550 as the difference between the cards is phenomenal.
