The MX518 takes advantage of this art with its new faceplate. A dark metallic silver color appears to absorb light in different areas, giving off the appearance of very deep dents in the mouse itself. The Swiss-cheese-like ‘holes’ are very similar to the NASA photos of moon craters, or perhaps more like someone putting speed holes in a new car with a pickaxe. Whatever it looks like, it will definitely pull attention on store shelves with the see-through box it’s packaged in.”

The SetPoint driver package is simple yet extremely powerful. Aside from being able to modify your pointer settings (trails, speed, side scrolling speed, acceleration, scrolling size, etc) you can also completely reprogram all of the buttons except the tilt wheel. You can either choose from a basic list of operations, or you can choose “other” which brings up a more extended list. For instance, instead of using the application switch button’s default function, I have it set to maximize the selected window on press. None of this is new though, as the same button functions were available for programming on the MX310 and MX510. The biggest difference is the new “keystroke assignment” feature. If you select it, you can then program each button to have the same function as a keystroke or a series of two keystrokes.

“We review all kind of stuff here at Bjorn3D, but I cannot remember us reviewing very many mouse pads before. Let’s admit it, in our quest to improve our computers, a lot of us probably forget about the mouse pad and still use one of the cheap ones that came with the computer or none at all.
If you lift your eyes a bit though, you’ll quickly see that there is a huge market out there, mainly amongst gamers, for mouse pads that allow the gamers to get the best sensitivity possible. Steelpad is a company that has a great reputation for their mouse pads. Their main products are various mouse pads in steel. I’ve tried a few, and they are really cool.
The mouse pad I am reviewing today is however made out of a completely different material. The Steelpad QcK+ is not only a mouse pad made of thin cloth, it is also a huge mouse pad.”

Wireless, once a despised and often cursed technology in mice due to its flakiness, has greatly improved over the last few years and is becoming more and more popular as folks look for ways to achieve a “cleaner” desk area. When I first took the plunge into wireless with the purchase of a Logitech MX700, I came away very happy. While the tracking wasn’t quite up to par for fast-paced FPS games such as Unreal Tournament 2003/2004 like its wired brethren, it’s larger size and overall layout was a definite plus in the comfort department. As much as I liked the wireless MX700, I ended up delegating it to desktop use only. When it came time for a few rounds of Unreal Tournament or Call of Duty, I found myself reaching back for my wired IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0.

Steelpad has definitely designed quite the excellent mouse pad with the QcK+. This pad will definitely remain in use for quite some time on one of the more used computers in this household. Its size has got to be its only real flaw, though only for some people. The QcK+ is a nice, sleek looking pad, which earns it points in my books for not having writing, logos, and advertisements all over the large surface. This is definitely an excellent buy for any gamer or computer artist, and at $19.95 you can’t really go wrong.
