4. Printer Ink
This should come as no surprise to anyone who has gotten a great deal on a printer in the past twenty years. Sometimes you can even find an all-in-one inkjet printer for less than $50 at a Black Friday sale. Unfortunately, the cost of ink remains high, and many times getting refills of all of your colors of ink costs more than the actual hardware did.
A meager color printer has at least four cartridges, and the average one has six or more. When you tally that each one costs an average of $10 you can see how manufacturers make their money back.
Sure you can use an aftermarket cartridge refill kit and save some money, but it’s still way more than what the ink actually costs to produce. We’re talking pennies worth of ink that sells for hundreds of times its worth.
