Okay, that came from the Verbatim website. I didn’t write it. But here’s my skinny on the whole thing. It’s a laser mouse with precision movement that would allow precise control with games and software. It is wireless so you don’t have to yank those damned wires that are tangled around your speaker and keyboard wires so you have some slack. It comes with its own rechargeable batteries, and all you have to do is sit it on top of the receiver which is also the charger. It’s programmable, it has a lot of buttons, and fits your hand like a second skin. This, my friends, is art. And damned if it ain’t pretty.
I’m sure you’ve installed stuff on your computer before, but I recommend installing your drivers and software before plugging in your gear. It’ll save you a few headaches with Windows taking days to install your stuff. I got mine installed and immediately noticed a huge difference over my old optical mouse. For one, that red light from underneath it didn’t come one as I’m used to happening. I thought it was broken at first, then remembered it was laser, not optical. So, feeling dumb, I set it back down on the charger and walked away so I could get a full charge before playing. I had a date with Left 4 Dead (review here) and I wasn’t going in with a half-cocked mouse.
I waited about two hours for a full charge, as any knowledgeable tech guy knows the proper charge time of these batteries.. And because my battery charger has a digital readout that told me it would take two hours. Honestly, who really wants to go check for a blinking light to see if it’s green just so they can get their batteries out? Craziness. Of course I will leave them in the mouse for charging on the mouse’s base after the test.
So the batteries were fully charged. I grabbed the mouse and loaded it. Right off the bat I noticed how much smoother and more precise my movements were. The cursor seamed to be more connected to the mouse than on the screen. It was a very strange feeling not having any choppy movement or lag in the cursor. So I loaded up Left 4 Dead (read our review here) for some serious gameplay.
