The End of the Megapixel Race
The Tech Lounge :: Wednesday, March 15, 2006

“When consumer digital cameras hit the market, manufacturers looked for that magical feature which could determine the worth of one camera versus another. Once the megapixel barrier was breached, it was only a matter of time before the megapixel rating would become the star of the digital camera marketing world. Even now, many consumers associate more megapixels with higher quality. Some manufacturers have even touted digital features to further confuse the consumers. Features such as a digital zoom, acting as a multiplier of the true optical zoom to produce a big number for “total zoom,” or interpolated (up-scaled) resolution – which while bringing lower quality, still carried the illusion of being higher quality because of the higher numbers.”
Cooler Master Centurion 530 ATX Chassis Review @ Virtual-Hideout
Virtual-Hideout :: Wednesday, March 15, 2006

Quote: “All things considered I would give the Cooler Master Centurion 530 an excellent rating. The case is extremely functional, and clean, with plenty of room for marginally advanced system configurations but still small enough for even the most basic unit. ”

Zalman VF900 Cu GPU Cooler
Pro-Clockers :: Wednesday, March 15, 2006
Quote: Today’s graphic cards are getting more and more powerful every generation. With all this power; a good cooling system is needed. Even when companies sell these cards with good cooling, there are never enough. There is when companies like Zalman come to the rescue. Zalman have been producing great GPU cooling solutions for years now, take the VF700 for instance. But even the VF700 is no match for the likes of the ATI X1900 series. So, now enters the VF900.
PowerMate USB Multimedia Controller Review
Virtual-Hideout :: Wednesday, March 15, 2006

Quote: “Such a device, with only one button (or dial in this case), really makes you think that it can’t possibly be that functional. However this product is different. It’s programmable. You tell it what to do, and it can probably do it! ”
Abit AN8 X32
t-break :: Wednesday, March 15, 2006
Like a few other manufacturers, Abit implements a heatpipe design on their AN8 32X between the MCP and the MOSFETs and a mesh grill on the back panel allows for the heat to escape with a little bit of help from the fan on the CPU. This is a reasonable configuration and work well on stock speed
Dual Core Battle: AMD Athlon64 X2 vs. Intel Pentium D Presler
hardCOREware :: Wednesday, March 15, 2006
Deciding between an Athlon64 and a Pentium 4 used to be a generally tough decision. AMD was easily faster in games, but the Pentium 4 was always backed by superior platforms (Intel’s own chipsets), better multitasking performance thanks to HyperThreading, and generally better audio and video encoding performance.
Now that the playing field is even with both products supporting dual cores on a single CPU, it will be interesting to see how they compare. Today we’re looking at a couple mid-to-high range and a couple high end CPU’s from both Intel and AMD to see how they compare, in our first AMD vs. Intel Dual Core Battle.

OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 Platinum Enhanced Latency XTC Dual Channel Memory Review #658
3dgameman :: Wednesday, March 15, 2006

“DDR2 Memory is becoming extremely popular and lately you’ll find more of it on the market then ever before. One improvement over the previous DDR2 memory is the tighter memory timings and higher speeds, although I would like to see even tighter memory timings. This feature is something that the average user doesn’t even consider. Most people will look for memory that is reliable, stable, and comes with a lifetime warranty. Thankfully, this product has all that as well…” ~3dGameMan.com

New Thermalright products spotted at Cebit: Ultra-90 and Ultra-120
Madshrimps :: Wednesday, March 15, 2006
Quote: “Both use a clip-on system similar for the HR-01 and they are light weight. Unlike the HR-01 however they come with clips so you can install a fan onto them. While the HR-01 was Thermalright’s first tower cooler, it didn’t support a fan mount, the “Ultra-90” and “Ultra-120″ are designed for use with a fan and it will be interesting to see how they will perform.”

Phoronix :: Wednesday, March 15, 2006
Summary: “Of the challenges that GNU/Linux users face when choosing hardware components for any system is the sound card compatibility. ALSA, or officially known as Advanced Linux Sound Architecture, provides much of the audio and MIDI functionality to Linux users and is largely replacing OSS (Open Sound System). Today we are examining Linux audio performance in the gaming environment with a slew of various sound cards by examining their effect on frame-rate performance. The contenders are Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Z3, Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2, Chaintech AV-710, Aureal Vortex (AU8820), and AC’97 integrated audio.”
DH Review: Noctura
Driver Heaven :: Wednesday, March 15, 2006
As you can see in the above charts the coolers from Noctua proved to be very good performers, the NH-U9 managed to keep up with the XP120 using a slow spinning 92mm fan while the XP 120 used the bigger (more powerful) 120mm fan. The NH-U12 was even more impressive, outperforming the XP 120 by 5° using the same fan is outstanding!

Full Auto – Xbox 360

“When we heard about a game that involved racing cars while trying to destroy everything in your path, we were obviously enthralled by the idea. Developed by Sega, Full Auto attempts to bring the driving genre to a whole new level by combining fast-paced arcade style driving with a substantial arsenal to dispose your rivals with. To say the least, Full Auto is an innovative title that does a great job at distinguishing itself from the mainstream of games. ”

And here I am again, reviewing Jetart’s latest all in one VGA cooler, the VC2000.”

OCZ Gold series EL PC3200 GX XTC 2GB Kit
Driver Heaven :: Thursday, March 09, 2006
“The GX XTC modules certainly appear different than any other RAM currently available and are easily identifiable by their heatspreaders. The new XTC heatspreaders from OCZ are supposed to enhance the cooling of the modules, but they certainly enhance the appearance as well. The heatspreaders glint like gold, which makes them look extremely glamorous. The heatspreaders are totally covered by holes forming a honeycomb design. This design allows for superior cooling performance and OCZ dubs it XTC (xtreme thermal convection).”
