The End of the Megapixel Race
The Tech Lounge :: Wednesday, March 15, 2006

“When consumer digital cameras hit the market, manufacturers looked for that magical feature which could determine the worth of one camera versus another. Once the megapixel barrier was breached, it was only a matter of time before the megapixel rating would become the star of the digital camera marketing world. Even now, many consumers associate more megapixels with higher quality. Some manufacturers have even touted digital features to further confuse the consumers. Features such as a digital zoom, acting as a multiplier of the true optical zoom to produce a big number for “total zoom,” or interpolated (up-scaled) resolution – which while bringing lower quality, still carried the illusion of being higher quality because of the higher numbers.”

Dual Core Battle: AMD Athlon64 X2 vs. Intel Pentium D Presler
hardCOREware :: Wednesday, March 15, 2006
Deciding between an Athlon64 and a Pentium 4 used to be a generally tough decision. AMD was easily faster in games, but the Pentium 4 was always backed by superior platforms (Intel’s own chipsets), better multitasking performance thanks to HyperThreading, and generally better audio and video encoding performance.

Now that the playing field is even with both products supporting dual cores on a single CPU, it will be interesting to see how they compare. Today we’re looking at a couple mid-to-high range and a couple high end CPU’s from both Intel and AMD to see how they compare, in our first AMD vs. Intel Dual Core Battle.

3dgameman :: Wednesday, March 15, 2006

“DDR2 Memory is becoming extremely popular and lately you’ll find more of it on the market then ever before. One improvement over the previous DDR2 memory is the tighter memory timings and higher speeds, although I would like to see even tighter memory timings. This feature is something that the average user doesn’t even consider. Most people will look for memory that is reliable, stable, and comes with a lifetime warranty. Thankfully, this product has all that as well…” ~3dGameMan.com

While the HR-01 was Thermalright’s first tower cooler, it didn’t support a fan mount, the “Ultra-90” and “Ultra-120″ are designed for use with a fan and it will be interesting to see how they will perform.”

The new XTC heatspreaders from OCZ are supposed to enhance the cooling of the modules, but they certainly enhance the appearance as well. The heatspreaders glint like gold, which makes them look extremely glamorous. The heatspreaders are totally covered by holes forming a honeycomb design. This design allows for superior cooling performance and OCZ dubs it XTC (xtreme thermal convection).”
