Jetart all in one GPU cooler – JASCH1
XS Reviews :: Tuesday, March 07, 2006

“For the last few weeks I have cursed my lack of knowledge at the time of building my last rig. From buying a Venice core CPU instead of spending a bit more for a San Diego, to RAM being more expensive than my motherboard and power supply combined. None however has annoyed me as much as my choice of my XFX PCX6600, when a 6800LE was much the same price. Because of this very reason I have squeezed every last drop of speed I can from this card. With a large core clock OC and a small mem clock overclock to boot, my graphics card has begun kicking out some serious heat. So upon contacting Jetart, I was sent their VGA all in one cooler. Needless to say I was very impressed by this cooler, to the point that it is still in my rig as I write this, replacing the now defunct arctic cooler. Read on to find out why.”

Sunbeam Silent Storm Case Review
Overclocker Café :: Tuesday, March 07, 2006
Sunbeam’s Silent Storm case delivers on its promise to be a quiet housing solution. With their patented Core Fan design and low decibel 120mm fans, this case is only audible if you’re using a loud power supply. The tool free drive bays for this case are excellent. The design for the external drive bays is probably the simplest, yet most effective that I’ve seen. And while all you bling-bling boys and girls will be a bit disappointed in the looks, the Silent Storm has clean lines and classy looks to it. All this for a price tag of less than $70 (and those are the ones with included PSUs that I could find) makes it a bargain.

Philips 42PF9630A Plasma HDTV
Home Theater Magazine :: Sunday, March 05, 2006

Media servers are a hot commodity right now. Almost every major manufacturer believes they’ve developed the easiest, best way to stream the music and photos from your computer via a network to your home entertainment system. While this is definitely a cool product category for the network inclined, there are those people who don’t have a home network and, more importantly, don’t want one. (Yes, it’s hard to believe, but it’s true.) Should we deny them easy access to vacation photos or their favorite party playlist on their TV?

Thermaltake PurePower 600Watt Power Supply Review
Tweaknews :: Sunday, March 05, 2006
“During my tenure here at Tweaknews, I’ve had the privilege to use and review more than a few high-end (and high-cost) power supplies. None of them have impressed me as much as the new Purepower 600W from Thermaltake. Granted, I haven’t looked at every PSU on the market, but after putting the 600W through its paces, I’d have to say that I can recommend it highly for its performance, features, appearance and price point.”

News: NVIDIA cuts TCP offloads to end data corruption
The Tech Report :: Sunday, March 05, 2006
Since the nForce4’s release, the chipset’s ActiveArmor networking capabilities have struggled to live up to their promised potential for reducing CPU utilization by handling TCP checksumming in hardware rather than on the host CPU. Over time, we’ve watched ActiveArmor’s CPU utilization oscillate between impressively low and alarmingly high. Every new driver release seemed to change ActiveArmor’s CPU utilization, and to make matters worse, many found that using ActiveArmor at all could lead to data corruption or instability.

NVIDIA claims the latest ForceWare drivers—6.70 for the nForce4 for AMD and 6.85 for the nForce SLI X16—have resolved ActiveArmor’s data corruption issues for good, but the fix comes at the expense of CPU utilization. NVIDIA has today confirmed to TR that it’s been forced to scale back ActiveArmor’s TCP offload engine in order to avoid data corruption.

Gigabyte Socket AM2 Motherboard
TweakTown :: Sunday, March 05, 2006
QUOTE: “The pictures you are about to see are of a motherboard which is a “dummy”, meaning it doesn’t work and it is still very much a prototype, as the Chinese characters indicate in this article’s icon at the top (and no I cannot read Chinese characters, yet!). Gigabyte told us that the motherboard is going to go through a lot of changes (extra features) and maybe layout changes, but at least you have an idea of what AMD’s Socket AM2 motherboards will look like in this single chipset solution.”

Onkyo TX-NR1000 A/V Receiver
Home Theater Magazine :: Sunday, March 05, 2006

A receiver that doesn’t handle the latest video and surround formats is a doorstop. A similarly outmoded high-end receiver is a very expensive doorstop. And that’s a problem for anyone who bought one during the 20th century. Most DVDs have Dolby Digital and/or DTS soundtracks—those are must-haves. Stereo material usually sounds much better to me in Dolby Pro Logic II than in DPLI or stereo. And, for the largest rooms, Surround EX and DTS ES have added the back channels some people deem necessary. HDMI is on its way in, component video is on its way out, XM and HD radio are knocking at AM/FM’s door, and, in a few years, surround receivers will be called on to do things that we can barely begin to imagine today.

Epos M22 Speaker System and Butler Audio TDB 5150 Amplifier
Home Theater Magazine :: Sunday, March 05, 2006
There’s a compelling magic that has kept my butt on the sofa— it’s the enthralling And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself. It was for no small reason that this HBO film earned an Emmy for sound editing. The width and depth of the soundscape, the detailed sound bits, the way the dialogue comes through, and the score’s ability to underscore the power and poignancy of scene after scene are remarkable. Each of these turns a made-for-TV movie into a film that transcends the limitations of the home venue for which it was created. And the system I’ve been using—an Epos M Series 5.1 speaker setup powered by the Butler Audio TDB 5150 vacuum-tube power amplifier—reveals such wonderful nuances in Pancho Villa that I have been completely glued to the couch.

Vizo Windstorm and Muffle Case Fans
Pro-Clockers :: Sunday, March 05, 2006
Quote: Ok, this is the tale of two little fans. The first little fan was quiet and low spinning, while the second fan was loud and fast. The first fan would sit in the rear of the case letting hot air escape. The second fan would take its place on top of an overheating processor. Ok, before I get carried away with this silly introduction, Vizo has provided me with two 80mm cooling cases. Each one fits the descriptions of the tale above. Let’s see what the Muffle and the Windstorm is all about.

With a design that was set to become “industry standard”, you could upgrade to a whopping 1-2MB of memory and had processors that matched the processing power of those that sent the Apollo rockets into space!
