Super Talent did a good job of performance but still wasn’t exactly what we were fully hoping for. Our real disappointment was the Kingston HyperX which we found to be the least performing memory, though we didn’t have Core 2 to test the RAM on at the time, maybe it simply isn’t the right companion for the AM2 platform.”

Today we have the honor as one of the absolute first hardware sites to seriously test Abit’s coming AW9D-MAX motherboard. The sample we’ve received is one out of very few engineering samples and doesn’t come with all the features of the retail package. We’ve been informed that the differences are only cosmetic though, the function remains the same. Waiting for a full review of the board, with all of its accessories, we will start by investigating how this motherboard overclocks.

The average AGP version of the 7600GS retails for roughly $140, which to be honest is a little rich when compared to the PCIe versions. To my surprise this is nothing next to the VisionTek X1600XT AGP, which costs a staggering $220 (256MB) or $280 for the 512MB version. Keeping in mind that PCIe X1600XT cards cost ~$120, it is hard to believe VisionTek is asking this much premium for their AGP board.

Back in January this year I’ve reviewed X1600 XT and X1300 from PowerColor. We now have end of August and some of you’ve been curiously waiting for new middle class cards to come out of ATI. I don’t usually start off reviews from disappointments, but in this case it will be just that. You have to realize, RADEONs X1650 and X1300 XT are also known as RADEON X1600 XT and X1600 PRO. There are few differences here and there, but for the major portion, it’s old stuff we’ve seen from Q1.

I may just be overly pleased with this card but I think the performance, scalability of SLI, and passive/silent operation is blissful. Newer games will be required to run at low resolutions but for the price, that is more than acceptable, Keep your eyes out for 7300GT cards especially passive ones that perform well like the Albatron 7300 GT DDRII.
