Have you ever wanted to ghost your Vmware Image, but didn’t want to take the time to ghost it, or didn’t even have enough space due to restrictions set on your virtual drive. Well if you have an .img file set as your hard drive you can use a program called DD to copy it to a partition on your physical H.D.D. And best of all there’s no need for a ghost program, no lag, and it’s all free.

Currently there are several options to the consumer to choose from each based on either the Intel® 975 chipset, the Intel® 965 chipset, and most recently the NVIDIA® 570 chipset. In the not to distant future we should see the NVIDIA® 590 and ATI RD600 chipsets also become serious players in the quest for this elusive dream. One thing is definitely for sure, the manufacturer that gets it right will definitely have a gold mine in their back pockets. Ultra Products hit the nail on the head with the X-Finity 500W PSU with Active PFC. It not only addressed the bulk of issues I had with previous X-Finity units provided for review, but the new look is very much to my liking. The monotone black appearance may be boring to some, but it looks mean to me. To make a car analogy, it’s more like an old school hot rod, while some of the other X-Finity models are the flashy import tuners. Sure the appearance changed, but that would have been a wasted effort if the performance suffered. Ultra Products addressed that area too, by increasing the fan size, using an aluminum housing for better cooling, and finally including Active PFC in one of their units.

A few years ago I started to think about a comedy skit. It would begin with the solemn intoning of “Our most precious IP” before going into a finger snapping version of “Patents and Trademarks” and then it would finish with a rousing “Get Me Copyright”. I was laughing over this with friends one night (they wanted to include a chorus chanting “royalties, royalties” at appropriate moments). It was one of those “things you know you’ll never do” conversations. We were breaking up for the evening when one of them asked. “Couldn’t you use something like that to explain copyright?” I consider that question scary. “No, it’s not basic enough,” was what I said. This is the basic explanation. After this, if someone ever decides my comedy skit should go live (not me, I’m keeping my day job), you’ll be able to laugh at the jokes or groan in pain.
