After being bought by USI they are pushing hard on new products, including IL-90MV, a motherboard based on Intel 945GT chipset targeted to media center PCs, i.e. Viiv-compliant desktops. Abit chose socket 478 for this motherboard as mobile socket 478 CPUs like Core Duo and Core 2 Duo (for notebooks) consume less power thus produce less noise (as they run cooler they can use quieter coolers) than desktop CPUs, an important factor when you think of building a PC to stay on your living room. But this product highlight is its on-board HDMI output, being the first time we’ve seen such feature embedded on a motherboard. Let’s take a look on this new product.”

The Scythe Infinity provided cooling results that will keep your high end AMD and Intel processors at a safe operating temperature, but I was expecting a bit more. Given the shear size of the cooler, the total number of heatpipes provided to draw heat away, and the Scythe reputation, I was sure this would be the new number one cooler on my list.

“Once again, it is the time of the month when new ATI display drivers are presented and it’s now the task of Phoronix to evaluate this latest package. Over the past several months, we have seen a horde of improvements reach the proprietary drivers from the Radeon X1000 support earlier this year to X.Org 7.1 support. Other recent changes include a combined i386/x86_64 installer, new distribution packaging support, Radeon X1000 TV-out support, ATI Events Daemon, dynamic displays, and many aticonfig changes. Today with the release of the 8.29.6 fglrx drivers there have not been many changes that affect the end-user, but still there are some items worth mentioning. After several drivers of heated changes, it looks as if we have now reached a slowdown in their development cycle as ATI prepares for the next arsenal of features and fixes. Hitting this month’s 8.29.6 driver is Linux 2.6.18 support, removal of R200 product support, and a few resolved issues.”

The Thermaltake Mozart TX case has a unique 7″ drive bay which was designed for installation of this LCD screen. The LCD panel is hidden inside the case until activated, then it slides out driven by a motor. An additional feature is the integrated touchscreen which lets you use your PC just by pointing with a little pointing device on the screen. Even though its native resolution is not something that is common in the PC world, the display’s great scaler can still achieve excellent video quality and well readable fonts.

Casebuy has recently sent us a few goodies to look at. Last month I reviewed the EZ Power Supply tester and this month I get to look at one of their new cases, the 6811-BB-2500. Not really a catchy name, but who buys a case because of the name? You normally buy a case because of its form and function. Casebuy as delivered a fully ATX compatible case that is a little shorter than normal. They were able to accomplish this by relocating the power supply to the bottom, front of the case. Let’s take a look at it and see how that works out.
