So I was excited when I found out I was going to be able to check out another CPU cooler from Zalman especially since I just got my new AM2 system. Our curiosity got the better of us and we decided to “setup a Mac” with the equipment available to us. Its really no secret that a “home installable” version of the Intel OS X has been floating on the “scene” for sometime now and we used one such version based on 10.4.6 version of the O/S. Hardware-wise, we used Intel’s 975X motherboard with a Core 2 Xtreme CPU running at 2.93GHz along with 2GB Corsair RAM running at DDR2-800MHz speed.

The AW8D board is an excellent example of an Intel 975X board with one rather big exception. Total lack of support for the new Core 2 Extreme and Core 2 Duo CPUs means that those wanting this motherboard are limited to the current 965 and below CPUs. As more and more Core 2 CPUs reach the market, replacing the 9xx and 8xx series, this means future upgrading is limited.
