MySpace Goes Mobile with Cingular

For $2.99 per month plus standard use charges, Cingular subscribers can download a Java application that lets them blog, upload photos and update their MySpace profiles, among other things. The service, MySpace Mobile, is available now on select handsets. Subscribers can text-message “MYSPACE” to the Cingular number 386.
Trend Micro: Windows zero-day exploit for sale

An online criminal has offered to sell software that exploits an unpatched bug in Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Vista operating system, according to security vendor Trend Micro Inc.
The code was offered for sale in an underground hacker discussion forum last month, said Raimund Genes, Trend Micro’s chief technology officer. The asking price? US$50,000.

However, I’m not writing this article to tell you about this cool application. Instead, I’ll be showing you some interesting data I’ve gathered using this WiFi scanner. You’d probably also end up following my steps.

Gigabyte are a company well known for their motherboards and graphics cards however more recently they have been branching out into all sorts of other areas such as peripherals (keyboards, mice, speakers and so on) and cooling solutions. The Gigabyte motherboards and graphics cards we have looked at in the past have always been good, however if we are honest the cooling solutions have been average at best. The G-Power in particular performed well – however was a nightmare to install on Socket 775 motherboards. Today’s review product brought back memories of the G-Power when we opened the box primarily because the fan used on the CPU section of the cooler is the exact same design…that’s right, a fan on the waterblock, certainly sounds different. Let’s see what the 3D Galaxy 2 is all about…

Yahoo Taiwan agreed to buy popular blog site Wretch.cc in a deal the companies expect to push them into the Web 2.0 era in Taiwan.
Wretch.cc is the most popular site in Taiwan offering Web services broadly defined as Web 2.0, which entails mixing user-generated content and multimedia applications such as video. The site offers blogs, video blogs and photo albums, and had announced plans to expand to video publishing similar to YouTube next year.

AMD outlines plans for future processors

During its four-hour Financial Analyst Day presentation today, AMD revealed new elements of its processor roadmap spanning the next couple of years, as well as its plans to scale beyond the current multi-core model. Intel talked about processors with “tens to hundreds of cores” at IDF earlier this year, but AMD believes the core race is just a repeat of the megahertz race and that adding more cores isn’t the best way to go about scaling processor performance in the future. Instead, AMD is cooking up what it calls “Accelerated Processing Units.”

With this being said they were kind enough to send over their newest memory from their Titanium series, OCZ2T8002GK. This kit consist of two one gig sticks of DDR2 800 rated at 4-4-4-15 at a command rate of 1T when using it in a EPP compliant board or 5-4-4-15 at 2T when used in a non-EPP board. Today, we will see how well these DDR2 800 Titanium pieces perform on today’s best overclocking Intel based boards.

Lawsuit may determine whether compulsive Internet use should be recognized as an addiction

By his own admission, James Pacenza was spending too much time in Internet chat rooms, in some of them discussing sex. He goes so far as to call his interest in inappropriate Web sites a form of addiction that stems from the posttraumatic stress disorder he’s suffered since returning from Vietnam. Whatever it’s called, Pacenza’s chat-room habit cost him his job.
After 19 years at IBM’s East Fishkill plant, Pacenza was fired in May, 2003, after a fellow employee noticed discussion of a sex act on a chat room open on Pacenza’s computer. IBM (IBM) maintains that logging onto the Web site was a violation of its business conduct guidelines and a misuse of company property—and that it was well within its rights to terminate Pacenza’s employment.
Pacenza and his attorney beg to differ. They filed suit in a New York U.S. District Court in July, 2004, seeking $5 million for wrongful termination. Earlier in the year, Pacenza had admitted to a superior that he had a problem with the Internet at home. Pacenza’s attorney, Michael Diederich Jr., alleges that the perception that Pacenza was addicted to the Internet caused IBM to fire first without asking questions or “even attempting to examine the situation.” Diederich says there are several steps IBM could have taken, including limiting his Internet use or blocking certain sites. “It’s not productive or useful for the employer to unfairly terminate employees,” says Diederich.
The case was held up for years due to Pacenza’s medical problems and his attorney’s service as a military lawyer in Iraq. But it has come back to the fore recently, and IBM on Dec. 8 sought a dismissal of the case, saying it’s without merit. On the surface, Pacenza’s may appear to be an open-and-shut case. He doesn’t deny logging onto the chat room at work, and company policy provides for the termination of employees who access inappropriate Web sites.
