Connect 3d/Sapphire X1900 Crossfire and X1950 Crossfire
Driver Heaven :: Saturday, October 14, 2006
My colleague Stuart “Veridian3” Davidson has been singing the praises of Crossfire for the last year and he seems very happy with the overall package. Fortunately for ATI I didn’t handle the launch review as I still think their claims have not rang true on many levels. When I was at the original Crossfire press launch I was told that the ATI solution would be superior to SLI as they don’t rely on a driver profile to support dual card rendering for your favourite game. One year on, I think most of us know that was perhaps a slight exaggeration on ATI’s behalf.

BIOS Optimization Guide Rev. 9.0 Posted!
Tech ARP :: Saturday, October 14, 2006

All fans can be set into three different speeds. And that’s not all. Let’s take a look on this new case.”

This X1650 Pro features a core speed of 625MHz and memory clock of 1.4GHz effective compared to the X1600 Pro’s core/memory speed of 500MHz/800MHz.

Intel Core2 E6300 – The Enthusiast Choice?
FastSilicon :: Saturday, October 14, 2006
‘Over the next few weeks we’ll be releasing a three part series called “Core2 Dream Machines.” Though we won’t be revealing any of our preliminary results today, we did want to share a bit of our thinking process with you. At the core of any system build is the CPU and we’ve chosen Intel’s Core2Duo E6300 as the platform of choice. Why? Read on warrior of geekdom, and you’ll soon find out.’

TR’s October 2006 system guide
The Tech Report :: Saturday, October 14, 2006
Some might be tempted to hold off upgrades due to the imminent arrival of products like Intel’s quad-core “Kentsfield” CPU and next-gen graphics processors from Nvidia and ATI. However, such products tend to debut as high-end parts too expensive for the majority of users. Kentsfield, for instance, will arrive under the very same Core 2 Extreme brand that currently houses the company’s $999 top-of-the-line chip. Unless you intend to have a couple of grand to blow on the latest and greatest parts in the next few weeks, your needs should be quite well met by this latest iteration of our system guide.

Apack Zerotherm GX700 Aluminum Videocard VGA Cooler Review
Tweaknews :: Saturday, October 14, 2006
“Well, I’m pretty impressed. The GX700 VGA cooler from ZEROtherm is an excellent example of what a well-executed heatpipe design can accomplish, even in aluminum. This is an excellent first effort at VGA cooling from a company we’re sure to see more of in the future. ZEROtherm calls the GX700 their “main-stream” VGA cooler, and represents, presumably, the lowest-cost cooler in their stable. At the proper price point, the GX700 from ZEROtherm could be an outstanding value.”

Top Five Complaints About Computer Hardware
Futurelooks :: Saturday, October 14, 2006
There are things that just make me go “GRRRR” about computer hardware. I’ve actually managed to rustle them up and limit them to five areas of top annoyance. I have more, but they wouldn’t let me go on. Is your annoyance on this list? Read on to find out!

VIZO Paragon PAR-250 2.5 inch One Touch Backup HDD External Enclosure Review
Laptop Lifestyle :: Saturday, October 14, 2006
Ever since we met VIZO at COMPUTEX 2006, we’ve been impressed with their willingness to listen to feedback and criticism so that they may build better products. When we first saw their products, we were amazed at how “North American” the product quality and presentation were. Except for some minor issues, their products were ready for these shores. Today, we take a look at one of their laptop hard drive enclosures called the PARAGON.

Antec TruePower Trio 650 Power Supply

Budget ATI Crossfire – X1300XT and X1650PRO Tested
Tweak Town :: Saturday, October 14, 2006
“The latest budget bad boys to come flying out of the gates from ATI are the Radeon X1300XT and Radeon X1650PRO. Today we have with us the X1300XT DDR3 model from HIS and the X1650PRO DDR3 model also from HIS. We are testing these cards in Crossfire and by themselves and chucking in an X1900GT for good measure.”

Foxconn GeForce 7950 GT
Hexus :: Saturday, October 14, 2006
We mooted the idea of special signature boards bearing the Foxconn logo to the VGA product manager earlier in the year, wondering if they were going to go down that road, and the response was pretty much just wait and see. So wait and see we have, patiently twiddling pixels for months until Hon Hai Precision Industry’s trade arm got some life and started shipping its first graphics boards.

Icy Dock MB455SPF 5-Bay Internal SATA Drive Enclosure Review
Big Bruin :: Saturday, October 14, 2006
The Icy Dock MB455SPF 5-Bay Internal SATA Drive Enclosure is a great choice for someone that needs more hard drive bays or hot-swap capabilities. If you have a RAID array spanning multiple drives, something like this is an excellent idea since it allows you to use as little space as possible, lets you swap out drives on the fly, and provides additional cooling to the drives.

Video Card Recommendations
ASE Labs :: Saturday, October 14, 2006
” When selecting computer components, careful and informed choices are crucial. Each component is thoroughly intertwined with each other to the point that changing one piece of hardware may force a change into many other pieces as well. Thankfully, some pieces of the computer can be made nearly independent from other components, but there is a large range of products to choose from. Video cards fall into this type of category. How you decide on the one to buy is very important in regards to the money you will spend and the performance you will get. ”

GPU Folding and Upcoming OCZ CPU Coolers
Legit Reviews :: Saturday, October 14, 2006

LR covers why to fold, how to fold on your GPU and how to speed up GPU folding by running 3D clock speeds on your video card. To top it all off LR announces a contest that will give out a couple of ATI Radeon X1900 series to a couple lucky people.

10 Reasons YouTube Can Survive and Prosper
Digital Trends :: Friday, October 13, 2006
“With what seems like an overwhelming amount of coverage from those that don’t think YouTube has a chance to make it, we thought it would be good to remind folks that people didn’t think Yahoo, Amazon, Google or Netscape would make it either. Well they were kind of right with regard to Netscape but that was more corporate suicide than anything else. So let’s look at how YouTube could survive in the face of massive competition. ”

Hyperkore Hyper Kolor Etching Review
Fast Lane HW :: Friday, October 13, 2006
Hyperkore Hyper Kolor Etching Review @ FastLaneHW.com Description: The Hyper Kolor Series (patent pending) Etchings! What is Hyper Kolor? Hyper Kolor is a “top secret” process that was carefully developed in the last few months here at HyperKore, that allows us to introduce COLORS into the Blackout process. Much like the Blackout v.2 etchings, Hyper Kolor etchings allow NO light to pass thought the window so there is no need for cathodes or LEDs.

ATI dives into stream computing
Tech Report :: Friday, October 13, 2006
I SPENT LAST WEEK taking in information like a sponge, and this week, it’s still slowly seeping out. My IDF wrap covered Intel’s future directions in processor technology, which had a lot to do with highly parallel floating-point processing. Many of my conversations with folks other than Intel last week touched on this same theme–whether it was about ATI’s stream computing initiative, Nvidia’s plans to counter, or the battle over gaming physics. Read on for my take on ATI’s foray into what it calls stream computing.

Mt. Rainier: Is It Necessary?
The Tech Zone :: Friday, October 13, 2006
Mt. Rainier technology is making its way back into the mainstream with the announcement of its availability on Windows Vista, which will officially be released in 2007. But computer users should ask themselves if this feature and technology is even worth adding to an Operating System, let alone the hardware required to operate it.

Silentmaxx ST-11 PRO Case Review
Virtual Hideout :: Friday, October 13, 2006
“Well, with the Silentmaxx ST-11 Pro, the hum was hardly noticed. What I heard was the power supply fan and the 80mm exhaust fan. The acoustical material does a very good job in absorbing the noise. Now, if you dump all the unwanted fans and go with a water cooling setup in this case, I’ll bet you will be asking yourself if the computer is even powered up.”

G.Skill F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ Memory
Technic 3d :: Friday, October 13, 2006
“G.Skill offers a memory PC 6400 DDR2 F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ 2 GB Dual Kit with a black heatspreader. Technic3D will see as good they are with 4-4-4-12 and Overclocking”

AMD helps Intel get back its market share
Hexus :: Friday, October 13, 2006
AMD appears to be almost completely neglecting its consumer market in an effort to make inroads into the corporate and enterprise market. The cost to AMD could be catastrophic.

Sony VAIO R: Two Monsters-in-One
Daily CE :: Friday, October 13, 2006
“Today seems to be a Sony day with tons of news coming from the Blu-Ray supporter. While the specs and features may be pretty good, the one thing that sets VAIO R apart from its competitors, predecessors and successors, is the split tower design.”

RedPower In Dash Radio/DVD/CD/MP3 Player with 3.5″ TFT Review
Big Bruin :: Friday, October 13, 2006
Given the overall impressive feature set, and rock bottom price, the RedPower In Dash Radio/DVD/CD/MP3 Player with 3.5″ TFT is almost a product to get really excited about. MP3 playback from your choice of SD/MMC cards, USB flash drives, or CD is not only very convenient, but sounds great. DVD functionality is also a strong point, as you are provided features like a player designed for the home, coupled with audio and video that exceeded my expectations.

OCZ Platinum 7200 EPP DDR-2 Memory
Bjorn 3d :: Friday, October 13, 2006
Well so much for explanation and speculation! Please join me as we attempt to discern with a high degree of objectivity how well OCZ has meshed NVIDIA’s EPP profile into their Platinum 7200 EPP modules. I assure you we’ll leave no table unturned and after reading this review you should be able to readily determine: 1) If this technology fits your needs and the needs of future patrons of our art; 2) If you’re ready to invest your hard earned $$$ in these memory modules; and 3) If you feel this technology is worthy of being included as one of the many JEDEC standards.
