SteelSeries SteelSound 5H V2
Phoronix :: Tuesday, October 17, 2006
“Throughout the 1990’s computer gaming was largely perceived as a past time for couch potatoes or as a form of relaxation for teenagers, but the gaming industry has largely expanded in all directions even onto the professional playing table. Just as with any athletic sports, having the proper equipment is critical for performing well against your opponents. SteelSeries has been one of the companies to recognize this growing market, and their mission statement is to create performance enhancing gaming gear. Of the products they manufacturer at this time is mouse pads, keyboards, headsets, software security, gaming gear accessories, and gaming wear. We have looked at several SteelSeries products in the past, and today we are trying out the SteelSound 5H V2 gaming headset, which is slated to be an optimized version of the original 5H headset.”

Frontier Labs NEXBlack
Bjorn 3d :: Tuesday, October 17, 2006
Today, we have at our hand another digital music player from Frontier Labs—NEXBlack. Frontier Labs may sounds like a new company in the digital audio player business but they have actually been in business since 2003. We have previous reviewed a few of their products Frontier Labs NEX 3+ MP3 Player and Frontier Labs NexKube. The NEXBlack that we are looking at today is Frontier’s Labs’s latest product that they hope to be able to grab some of the market from Apple. What really sets this music player apart from the rest of digital music players is the usage of removable Compact Flash or MicroDrive as the storage. In addition, NEXBlack also has an FM tuner and the ability to record sounds. Let’s take a closer look at NEXBlack.

Antec P160W System Case Review
Tech Gear :: Tuesday, October 17, 2006
“”A new review has been posted for the Antec P160W mid-tower case. Enthusiasts of clear side panels will want to look closely at this one. “Today we’ll be looking at the Antec P160W, a mid tower case with a huge windowed side panel to show off your insides. No doubt you’ve already realised how much of the side panel is actually transparent if you look at the picture above. This case is aluminium so light weight it is yet still tough enough for heavy duty components…”

Tech ARP :: Tuesday, October 17, 2006

SyncMAX PC2-6400 Express DDR2-800 memory review
PC Stats :: Tuesday, October 17, 2006
“If you’re looking for a set of memory that doesn’t break the bank or is for a workstation PC, check out what PCSTATS thought of the SyncMAX PC2-6400 Express DDR2-800 memory. It’s decent RAM for the price. “It can be hard to wade though a sea of generic memory modules, and so it helps to read the reviews on prospective candidates for your PC first. In this review PCSTATS is going to walk past the isle with the flashy memory all decked out in heat spreaders, lights, bells, and inflated price tags, and head towards this pair of PC2-6400 DDR-II 800 memory modules from a company called SyncMax. If you’re looking for memory that won’t break the bank and still offers up respectable performance, the retail price of $170 CDN ($150US, £80GBP) makes SyncMax’s 1GB kit of dual channel DDR-2 seem like quite a bargain.”

Windows Vista RC2 Preview – From installation to benchmarking
Tweak Town :: Tuesday, October 17, 2006
“Today we’ll take a close look at the latest released build from Microsoft (RC2 build 5744) and give you our thoughts on the OS, from the down right impressive to the down right dog ugly. We look at installation to tweaking the OS, driver support, discussing what XP supported programs and games worked in Vista and then run some benchmarks to compare the performance from XP to Vista in its current state and with the latest drivers available to us at the moment.”

SLAX v5.1.8 LiveCD
Phoronix :: Tuesday, October 17, 2006
“SLAX, our favorite mini LiveCD at Phoronix, has reached version 5.1.8. Like usual, they have their various SLAX editions such as KillBill, Server, Popcorn, and Frodo. SLAX Standard v5.1.8 features KDE 3.5.4, recompiled with some Slackware 11.0 fixes, better handling of booting from USB devices, and added slaxsave.zip to the SLAX CD.”

ECS KA3MVP Extreme Motherboard
Legit Reviews :: Tuesday, October 17, 2006
“When it comes to high-end, uber-overclocking, record-breaking motherboard manufacturers, you usually do not think about the ECS. ECS has been a huge OEM for many years, and has never really produced anything that would be considered top-dog as far as performance goes. They did have the K7S5A that may bring back a lot of memories (good and bad) for those that have been in the overclocking scene for awhile. I went through a few of those boards myself! Today, we have the ECS KA3MVP Extreme motherboard to look at. ECS touts this board, as the name suggests, as an MVP board and they say it is extreme. Well, let’s take a look at the board and see if it is all that!”

Hi-Tech Reviews :: Tuesday, October 17, 2006

Thirty Day Trials
PC Mech :: Tuesday, October 17, 2006
My two boys like to make Lego stop motion videos using a digital camera, a tripod, Windows Movie Maker, a mountain of Lego, and admirable creativity. They had a thirty day trial version of Adobe Premier Pro more than thirty days ago, which was much easier to use, but Dad (me) can not afford the price. I have to commend them for doing this project with the most basic equipment–anything less and they would not be able to engage in this hobby. It was a summer project, so they had some help from friends who became a bit bored after a while. For some reason they persisted, and now have a six minute movie that isn’t quite finished because school is getting in the way. I expect the hobby will find a place in their schedule during long weekends and Winter holidays.

IDF Prague: Terascale Computing
techPowerUp! :: Monday, October 16, 2006
At Intel Developer Forum 2006 in Prague a presentation explained many of the obstacles that need to be overcome on the long way to Terascale computing. A Terascale computer is a machine that can perform one trillion operations per second, more than 50 times of what today’s high-end CPUs can achieve. But Terascale is about much more than just building a CPU that can go that fast…

Asetek Low Cost Liquid Cooling (LCLC)
Hardware Secrets :: Monday, October 16, 2006
““Low Cost Liquid Cooling” or simply LCLC is the name of the latest water cooling kit from Asetek. It doesn’t have a fancy name however its name says it all: it is a cheap water cooler targeted to OEMs. This kit comes already pre-assembled and has only two parts, meaning that OEMs will be able to offer a water cooler solution to their costumers for an affordable price without needing to go thru the hassle of assembling complicated parts. Let’s take a look on it.”

Cooler Master Mystique 632 ATX Case
PC Apex :: Monday, October 16, 2006

DFI LANParty UT NF590 SLI-M2R/G Review
PC Modding Malaysia :: Monday, October 16, 2006
With vast memory tweaking and overclocking options in the BIOS, the SLI-M2R/G motherboard should make overclocking easy and fun. We managed to hit over 640 MHz memory frequencies when we paired it with some OCZ VX2 Micron D9s, which broke our own lab records in terms of memory speed. At the same time, our Athlon 3000+ also reached slightly over 3.2GHz whilst on water-cooling only. Nevertheless, the current BIOS needs a little improvement as we were limited to only 370HTT.”

MSI Geforce NX7900GT-VT2D256EHD Video Card
Viper Lair :: Monday, October 16, 2006
“In our last few reviews, we’ve stated that HDCP isn’t a big deal right now and we still don’t think it will impact the majority of consumers for at least another year to 18 months. HDCP is a reality though and we will need hardware that can decrypt the signal in hardware for optimal performance. That said, the MSI Geforce NX7900GT-VT2D256EHD is a superior product to most 7900GT products, including MSI’s own non-HDCP 7900GT due to it’s higher default speeds and HDCP support.”

Foxconn Winfast N570SM2AA Motherboard Review
Ninjalane :: Monday, October 16, 2006
Foxconn sent over their latest mainstream motherboard offering the Winfast N570SM2AA based on the nForce 570 SLI chipset. While this isn’t not a top of the line offering you wouldn’t know by looking.

Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II
Bytesector :: Monday, October 16, 2006
“Today will mark the first review of a chipset cooler – not just from Thermaltake, but the very first chipset cooler review on all of Bytesector. Welcome, Extreme Spirit II. Thermaltake has clearly given serious thought to their latest chipset cooler. This all-copper assembly uses heatpipe technology to draw heat away from a thick copper base up into a 25 thin fin assembly cooled by a 40mm LED fan.”

Zalman CNPS9500 LED Heatsink Review
GruntvillE :: Monday, October 16, 2006
“This is when I saw where the reputation for the hot Prescott cores came from, I had problems keeping this chip from setting off alarms. I thought it might not be set properly so I removed it, cleaned it and reset it, and still was getting high temps. Letting this one stay on there a week for the AS5 to cure was a hard decision and I was glad to take it off and put the Zalman 9500 back on, but this time with the AS5.”

Enermax Phoenix Enclosure Review
Virtual-Hideout :: Monday, October 16, 2006
“When I fired up the computer for testing, I kept the 250mm fan off for about 10 minutes. When that time had passed, I powered up the side fan and placed my hand by the exhaust ports on the rear of the enclosure. I was definitely surprised at the heat it was pushing out.”

First Look: SynapseLife
XYZ Computing :: Monday, October 16, 2006
Where companies like Google and Zoho are trying to help you be productive through office applications, other services are aimed at personal organization. The internet power user has a number of tools which can easily be transferred from the desktop to the “webtop” if they are willing to take a chance with a new service. In addition to RSS feeds and bookmarks there are many personal organization duties that have successfully made the transition to the web. The trouble for most people has become finding a site that is able to code these in a manner that has the features you need, a high degree of accessibility, and is easy to use.

SendStation PocketDock for the Apple iPod Review
Futurelooks :: Monday, October 16, 2006
Looking for ultra-portable devices to connect your iPod to various audio and computing devices? SendStation has a few items in their PocketDock series to provide USB and FireWire connections to your computer and line level outputs to your stereo. After finding these online, they looked so cool we had to try them out.

ABIT Fatal1ty AN9 32X Motherboard Review
Motherboards.org :: Monday, October 16, 2006
ABIT has done a wonderful job with the Fatal1ty AN9 32X board. The board scored over 40 points on our features scoring system, with SLI, Firewire and other features making it one of the most feature-rich boards on the market. Performance was on a par with other boards on this chipset with the default clock speed, but the overclocking was very good on the board making it an excellent choice for people that want the absolute best.

Vigor Gaming Monsoon II HSF – Heatpipe and Peltier Cooling
Tweak Town :: Monday, October 16, 2006
“Vigor Gaming is a smaller company founded by hardcore gamers with the intent of putting out a product line that will take your enthusiast rig to the next level. Given their background, they have a working knowledge of what it takes to make an extreme system and try to give you the best possible solutions with their growing product line. On the blocks today is an interesting item, the Monsoon II cooling solution. It takes the proven heatpipe technology currently on the market and adds in a TEC (Thermal Electric Cooling) to enhance an already winning design.”

The 50th Anniversary Of The Hard Drive, How Far Have We Come?
The TechZone :: Monday, October 16, 2006
In observance of the hard drive’s 50th anniversary, we cajoled our kids into visiting the computer museum in San Jose. Seemed like an interesting way to get them to understand the technology that has impregnated their lives. We unplugged our son’s MP3 player white earbuds. Made him leave his PSP at home. Turned off our daughter’s cellphone…no IMing.

Ultra X-Finity 500W and X-Finity 2G 600W
Driver Heaven :: Monday, October 16, 2006
Ultra is a well-known manufacturer of computer components even though they are relatively new on the scene. They has a vast product line and mostly focus on power supply products, since these are the products that put them squarely on the map. Ultra virtually invented the modular power supply units after all and their first modular power supply units were a great Today we have two new power supply units from Ultra, the X-Finity 500W and the X-Finity 2G 600W. Ironically, neither of them are modular, but still both of them are high class units.
