The State Of Web 2.0
The TechZone :: Wednesday, October 04, 2006
There’s a whale of a lot of thunder and lightning out there about how great Web 2.0 is going to be. It’s so good O’Reilly sued to retain the “ownership.” Everyone is piling on the train. Kids everywhere are starting up their activities to make gazillions of $$$. VCs are throwing tons of dollars at it. M&A people are sharpening their hooks. Lots of noise. Lots of flash. But will the dollars rain down? And for who?

Inno3D GeForce 7600GS AGP Review
NGOHQ :: Tuesday, October 3, 2006
Today we have a special graphics card in our labs. Believe us or not, but it’s an AGP card and it’s intended for all of those who still have a motherboard with an AGP port. Yes, I’m talking about the GeForce 7600GS AGP – Nvidia’s latest response to ATI’s RADEON X1600PRO AGP. This is the second card of the GeForce 7 family that is intended for the AGP market.

Gigabyte 3D Aurora 570 Case
3dGame Man :: Tuesday, October 3, 2006
“The Gigabyte 3D Aurora 570 Case looks great and has lots of excellent features. It’s mostly aluminum, so it’s light at only 8kg (18lbs) but remains rigid. They include three 120mm fans which ensures fantastic air circulation. Also, the side panel ventilation section can be swapped out for a window which they include. Watch the Video to find out more…”

Cooler Master Mystique 631
Think Computers :: Tuesday, October 3, 2006
“Cooler Master is well known in the DIY and enthusiast realms for combining great function with sleek, stylish looks. While Cooler Master has been selling Power Supplies and other cooling products they seem to be really diving into the case market lately providing some really nice looking cases aimed at a more mature crowd and offering them at a great price. Today we will be taking a look at the Cooler Master Mystique 631 which offers some really great features such as a tool free design at a great price.”

Secret Agents and Technology
PC Mech :: Tuesday, October 3, 2006
In my hush-hush life as a secret agent (don’t tell anyone), I naturally use extreme technology from the mundane, everyday chat with headquarters, to high tech cars armed with lasers and missiles that blow up bad guys. You probably see me or one of my compatriots daily racing around the streets of Toronto, New York, Paris, or Milan. Technology makes my life easier, but sometimes I miss the old cloak and dagger approach. Recently our network at headquarters was infiltrated and we had to find various ways to communicate using actual face-to-face methods. Secret messages were passed along on analog devices such as edible paper and newspaper ads. We sparked up chats with agents we had never met by using secret coded question and answer introduction techniques such as offering to light each-others cigarettes (Q: “Can I light your cigarette?” A: “Yes, but only on Wednesdays.”) or asking about the weather (Q: “Did you notice the weather?” A: “Yes, but only on Wednesdays.”).

Antec TruePower Trio 650 Watt Power Supply Unit
Bjorn 3d :: Tuesday, October 3, 2006
The power supply unit is the single most important part of any computer. Regardless of the system there is a given rule: whether it be a simple workstation with integrated components or an advanced gaming system with every fresh technology available, everything requires power to operate. As anyone who has suffered the failure of a low-end power supply will tell you: not all power supply units (PSU’s) are created equal. While every journalist has their own system for reviewing a power supply, my review will take a very detailed look at the Antec TruePower Trio 650W PSU at every angle and submit the unit to battery of torture tests in order to ensure it will provide any computer system with stable power.

ATI Catalyst 6.9 Performance Analysis
Tweak Town :: Tuesday, October 3, 2006
“All for good reason though – with the release on the new ATI Radeon graphics cards, one would think that the latest 6.9 drivers would bring support for the new cards from ATI (the X1300XT, X1650PRO and of course the X1950XTX). We were shocked though after completing tests on our hacked 6.8 driver on the new cards to then discover the new 6.9s doesn’t support the cards.”

ABIT Fatal1ty AN9 32X AM2 Motherboard
OCTools :: October 3, 2006
“Our Athlon64 3800+ X2 which is rated at 2GHz is running at almost 2.7GHz. With this great overclock, we turned our cheap Athlon64 X2 3800+ faster than an Athlon64 X2 5000+ chip. This feat was achieved out of the box.”

ATI Radeon X1950XTX 512MB Video Card Review
Motherboards.org :: Tuesday, October 3, 2006
ATI’s X1950XTX is supposed to be retailing for $449 as a MSRP. It is currently available at Newegg.com for $419, not a bad price for what you get. Performance in the high-end today is sufficient for high resolution gaming with anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering enabled and the X1950XTX delivers performance in spades, beating other single card solutions out there by a nice margin.

AMD’s AM2- What Went Wrong?
XYZ computing :: October 3, 2006
When AM2 was first announced it seemed like it was going to be a guaranteed hit. After all, this platform would be moving the tremendously successful socket 939 into the future with its use of DDR2 memory, a greatly increased memory bandwidth, hardware virtualization, and a number of exciting new CPUs. Despite everything AM2 had going for it, this includes a dedicated enthusiast base and a tremendous amount of pro-AMD spirit at the time, the new platform has largely been dismissed by consumers. The question now is, what happened? How did AMD go from record growth and being the darling of enthusiasts to having a new platform which failed to impress?

Coolermaster Mystique RC-632 Case Review

500GB Hard Drive Round-Up
The Tech Lounge :: October 3, 2006
“As platter densities have increased, we have watched our drives grow. 20, 40, 80, 120, 250, and now 500GB drives are in the mainstream. Larger ones are starting to show up, but the 500 GB variety is gaining popularity. All the big players are in the market. It is these 500 GB monsters that I have with me today. From Western Digital I have their Caviar SE16 (WD5000KS), from Hitachi I have their Deskstar 7K500 (HDS725050KLA360), and from Seagate the Barracuda 7200.9 (ST3500641AS). Each are SATA II, 7200 RPM drives with 16MB of cache.”

Razer Barracuda HP-1
Phoronix :: Monday, October 2, 2006
“For years now, Razer and their array of gaming mice as well as mouse surfaces have impressed us. Most recently, they have begun to venture into developing audio products for gamers, with their inaugural product being the Barracuda HP-1 Headphones. The Razer Barracuda HP-1 Gaming Headphones rely upon eight drivers, individual channel volume control, and a detachable microphone to deliver the ultimate audio experience while gaming.”

GeForce 7950 GS?
NGOHQ :: Monday, October 2, 2006
We have just received a word from a video card manufacturer. Speaking off the record, the source claims that Nvidia is working on a GeForce 7950 GS. The details are still blurry at this moment due to the premature revelation. As you probably figured from the name, the 7950 GS will be a bit slower then 7950 GT, and it will be cheaper in order to counter ATI’s X1900’s price.

XG Magnum 600 EX
techFEAR :: Monday, October 2, 2006
XG takes the utility of a 600 watt power supply, puts it in an anodized aluminum external case, and names it the Magnum 600 EX. techFEAR puts this external eight pound PSU on the test bench and finds out what’s on the inside.”

Gigabyte GA-M59SLI-S5 nForce 590 SLI Motherboard Review
PC Stats :: Monday, October 2, 2006
You might be thinking Gigabyte has devised some kind of ‘Tri-mode SLI’ feature where three graphics cards can be run in tandem for mind-blisteringly fast gaming results…. well not quite. In reality the two blue PCI Express x16 slots operate to support SLI with a standard SLI bridge card and 32 PCI Express split between the two. The third slot operates at PCI Express x8 speeds, and can currently be used with an additional PCI Express videocard to expand desktop real estate, or very shortly with the anticipated new nVidia physics cards.”

Robson Technology Overview
Hardware Secrets :: Monday, October 2, 2006
“The next Centrino platform to be released next year – codenamed Santa Rosa – will feature an integrated disk cache using flash memory in order to speed up disk access and also save energy – which is a must in extending battery life. In this IDF Fall 2006 we had a more detailed explanation on how this technology, codenamed Robson, will work. Let’s take a look.”

Samsung 971P
Overclockers Online :: Monday, October 2, 2006
Aside from the esthetics of the 971p, like every Samsung LCD panel, the screen is stunning. The brightness and contrast make images and colors jump off the page and slap you in the face. The preset options that can be quickly cycled through are perfect for all situations and one couldn’t ask for more adjustments through software that is included in the box. The Samsung 971p has just thrown for an 80 yard touchdown on opening weekend late in the 4th quarter to win the game and gets my fantasy start next week regardless of who it is playing.

Spire Pininfarina Review
Techgage :: Monday, October 2, 2006
If you’re a PC enthusiast chances are you’ve heard of Spire and if you’re a car enthusiast the chances are you’ve heard of Pininfarina. If you’re into both the chances are good that when you heard those two words together your first thought was “WTF?”. Well, Spire just didn’t pull a name out of a hat for this case, it was indeed designed by the folks at Pininfarina. This begs the question “Just what do car designers know about PC cases?” Read on to find out.

X1300 XT Review, and X1650Pro Review
Neoseeker :: Monday, October 2, 2006
“Sapphire’s Radeon X1300 XT will try to find its own place in an already crowded market of sub $100 video cards. ATI’s main competitor, NVIDIA, has their own line-up of sub $100 boards ranging from the GeForce 6600 to the GeForce 7300 GT. ATI has also reduced prices on old stock of their Radeon X1300 PRO and Radeon X1600 PRO boards – two cards which really failed to excite enthusiast and normal consumers alike.”

XSPC X2O Xtreme 1/2″ CPU Universal Water block Review
Xtreme Computing :: Monday, October 2, 2006
“I have to say one of the best Value/Performance CPU blocks on the market, if XSPC keep this up and release more excellent performing hardware like this they are sure to become as well know as the other major brands out there. A bargain and a performer all in one package, not something you see very often”

Seagate 750gb External Hard Drive with Pushbutton Backup

Intel uncorks quad cores and a teraflop chip
The Tech Report :: Monday, October 2, 2006
THE LAST FEW Intel Developer Forums were part of the long, slow lead-up to the introduction of the Core microarchitecture and the replacement of its Netburst predecessor. Now that Core-based chips have begun shipping in the form of the Core 2 Duo and the Xeon 5100 series, Intel is working hard to sweep the Netburst era under the rug and move forward with its impressive new processor lineup—even as Netburst-based products continue to ship. And, I suppose, who could blame them? Chips based on the Core microarchitecture have proven to be everything Intel promised, with very low per use and a substantial performance lead over AMD’s best CPUs. Naturally, this fall’s IDF is focused less on next-generation products than it is on the Core-based present and very near future.
