Thermaltake Soprano White Case
Think Computers :: Tuesday, October 10, 2006
“A while ago Thermaltake released the Soprano case. The case was a very nice case, but only came in 2 colors; black and silver. Black and silver are probably the 2 most common colors used on PC cases so they are a dime a dozen. Well Thermaltake has just released the White version of the case and I will definitely turn so heads. I mean how many cases do you know of that are all white? Thermaltake was also nice enough to send us the version of the case with a side window so let’s take a look!”

Liteon 160P6S Review
Fast Silicon :: Monday, October 09, 2006
Liteon’s 160P6S DVD burner is in the hot seat today. Sporting 16x +/R, 8x+R-DL, 4x-R-DL, 8x +RW and 6x-RW burning speeds as well as an attractively low price, is this a good burner for the money? We’ll take a look.

Icy Dock MB124E External Firewire 2.5″ Drive Enclosure Review
Big Bruin :: Monday, October 09, 2006
Although the aesthetics and acoustics earn it high marks, the Icy Dock MB124E falters when it comes to performance. Two reliable benchmarks indicate that the transfer rates provided by the MB124E are about half of what a USB 2.0 enclosure was capable of. Despite numerous attempts to improve the results with different conditions, configurations, and all-together different test systems, the results were consistently and unexplainably poor.

The Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe Motherboard Review
Legit Reviews :: Monday, October 09, 2006
“Asus has brought a great performing board to the market for the AM2 socket in the form of the M2N32-SLI. The bundle itself makes this board stand out, as it comes with the wireless kit, and a few other goodies that are normally purchased after the fact. AS far as performance goes, the M2N32-SLI was right on par with the other two chipsets that we looked at. It led the way in quite a few of the benchmarks that we used, and when it did not score higher, it was very close to the same.”

ATI’s Stream Computing
Driver Heaven :: Monday, October 09, 2006
“Dave Orton kicked things off with an overview of the whole concept, and he put forward quite a realistic outlook on what it can and can not do. Far from being the best thing for every task out there, Orton started out saying how it may or may not apply to your workload. If the problem you have will map to a GPU, you can see speedups from 10x to 40x, a massive increase. Doing the same math purely on a CPU would take a very expensive computer.”

Corsair TWIN2X2048-8500C5 2GB DDR2 Memory Kit
XYZ Computing :: Monday, October 09, 2006
This time we are going to be a testing a 2GB kit from Corsair. The TWIN2X2048-8500C5 is a dual channel 2x1024MB kit from Corsair aimed at performance enthusiasts. This memory is best paired with Nvidia’s nForce 590 SLI chipset motherboards, like our Asus M2N32 SLI. This is the memory industry’s first mass-produced DDR2-1066 2GB kit so performance seekers should take notice. We are going to test it out and see just what it can do in our rig.

PNY PR Horrors
Techgage :: Monday, October 09, 2006
As you can imagine, we deal with PR day in and day out. More times than not, companies are completely responsive and friendly to deal with. PNY is the first company that we’ve dealt with that have proved to be an absolute headache.

Gigabyte GA-945GM-S2 945G Express Core 2 Duo Motherboard
PC Stats :: Monday, October 09, 2006
“The Gigabyte GA-945GM-S2 motherboard is built around the newly Core 2 Duo compatible Intel 945G Express northbridge and ICH7 southbridge chipsets. The solution is ideal for cash-strapped consumers and not so great for AMD… The microATX board accommodates a maximum of 4GB of DDR2 400/533/667 memory in a dual channel configuration. The GA-945GM-S2 supports all existing Socket 775 processors on a 1066MHz FSB. On the short list of the GA-945GM-S2’s hardware goodies we find an integrated Gigabit network card, Intel Azalia High Definition 7.1-channel audio codec, four USB2.0 jacks, four 3GB/s SATA connections and of course the onboard Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 videocard at the rear I/O.”

Vantec SATA/IDE to USB Adapter Review
Techgage :: Monday, October 09, 2006
Working on PC’s is fun, all except data recovery. It’s a pain tearing your PC apart to simply stick another drive inside. Today we look at a smooth little gadget that takes away that pain.

Biostar Sigma Gate 7300GT 256MB DDRIII
Overclockers Online :: Monday, October 09, 2006
This is the second 7300GT I have reviewed in as many months and since the last was a DDRII model, I was expecting better performance out of the DDRIII model. Not only was the memory faster but the core also comes clocked higher out of the box. Despite this elevated expectation, the Biostar Sigma Gate 7300GT 256MB DDRIII never let me down in the slightest bit.

Knowing your Power Supply
Technibble :: Monday, October 09, 2006
“In this article we discuss the one component your whole computer depends on: the Power Supply Unit. Any computer, no matter how perfectly planned, prepared or assembled, will fail to boot, sputter, smoke and eventually die if connected to an inadequate, weak or just plain faulty power supply. Picking a decent power supply isn’t much of a science; however, knowing what voltages run through your computer is, and knowing it will come in handy once you start actually repairing, as it might indicate what exactly went wrong with the powersupply.”

LIX Systems LX8100-AM2BB-M2NPV
Phoronix :: Monday, October 09, 2006
“While retail machines are not our main focus at Phoronix for review, after learning of a new contender in the Linux HTPC arena we decided to give LIX Systems another look. Today we are looking at a moderately priced Home Theater PC that has everything pre-configured to hopefully begin a smooth Linux media experience.”

Foxconn P9657AA-8KS2H P965 Express Core 2 Duo Motherboard Review
PC Stats :: Monday, October 09, 2006
“The Foxconn P9657AA-8KS2H is one of least expensive P965 Express motherboards out there. Onboard goodies include a PCI Express x1-based Gigabit network card and an Intel Azalia High Definition 7.1 channel audio codec. Upgrades are possible through a PCI Express x1, x4 and x16 slot, and three 32 bit PCI slots. You can install a maximum of 8GB of DDR2-800 memory into the system while running in a dual channel configuration, and the motherboard supports all Socket 775 processors, from the lowly Celeron D to the flagship Core 2 Extreme and can run with FSB’s of 533, 800 and 1066 MHz.”

ViewSonic VP2330wb review
Driver Heaven :: Monday, October 09, 2006
“It is amazing how fast things change in the world of PC components. Just 3 years ago I was quite happily running a 17inch screen with an Athlon XP 2600+, Geforce 5800 and 512mb (2x256mb) of memory and even using it as a review system here on DriverHeaven. Now this review system has a dual core CPU and 2 GB of ram, pretty much a standard configuration in the enthusiast community. It is fair to say that many users are still using a CRT with their system, so what exactly can a top of the range TFT bring to the table?”

Sharpcast Interview: Data Sharing Made Simple
Digital Trends :: Monday, October 09, 2006
“Imagine as a consumer the ability to synchronize your photos and contact data across multiple digital platforms in near real-time by making a change on one location and seeing it appear moments later across the others. This is the general idea behind Sharpcast, a Silicon Valley start up whose idea it is to get your data to match-up across the Web, computers and cell phones with as little effort as possible. ”

Vantec SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter Review
Virtual Hideout :: Monday, October 09, 2006
“If you regularly play around with multiple HDDs in a test environment, or otherwise, and often need to transfer data from one to another but find yourself bogged down by having to install and reinstall drives, then this small Vantec adapter is perfect for you.”

Editorial: Why Vista means “GetaMac”
Virtual Hideout :: Monday, October 09, 2006
“Here’s another stupid feature of “Search” in Vista. Say you are searching for some music (opera for example), but you also have a program called “Opera” that you happen to use as your internet browser. Vista will just assume that you want to run Opera.exe when you hit enter, and not do a search for it….”
